Amet and govt have lost the plot

Concerned Citizen

I am compelled to write because I have lost my respect for someone I used to look up to.
Sir Arnold Amet was a man of stature and integrity and he has become the latest casualty in a long line of leaders, including the previous governor-general to have lost their integrity because of their association with the prime minister.
These leaders, including Sir Michael Somare, have built their integrity over time but one wrong act in the public’s eye has destroyed their integrity and reputation.
This, I believe, is of a great concern not only to me but many Papua New Guineans.
Only a handful of leaders like Powes Parkop and Dame Carol Kidu have remained untainted.

No matter how Sir Arnold tries to justify the sacking of acting Public Prosecutor Jim Wala Tamate, the public are no longer as ignorant as before and will not swallow such nonsense.

We have come a long way, almost 36 years since independence, and our people are now better educated to see through any cover ups and excuses the government might give for its actions or a lack of it.

This government, despite enjoying stability and serving two full terms, has failed miserably to translate the macroeconomic gains into improved infrastructure and better standard of living.

It is true we have had record billions of kina budgets over the years but what is there to show for it?
My job takes me to many provinces and many rural communities but I am sad to say that there is no evidence to show for all the billions of kina earned. Our government has failed the people over the years.

This and previous governments are and were only interested to hold on to power. Everyone is power hungry, period. The opposition is no different. It is fighting to get into power but it had its day and failed to perform.

Sir Mekere Morauta, apart from rescuing PNG’s economy from near collapse from Sir Bill Skate and bringing much needed financial and political reforms, did not provided any alternative development policies.
I will conclude by saying “you can fool some of the people some of the time but you cannot fool all the people all the time”.
The pot is simmering and our politicians will do well to take heed of what is happening in Egypt and other Middle Eastern nations.
