A sad state to the Image of the Royal PNG Constabulary

TAXPAYER

As a concerned citizen, I would like to have my say on the performance of our police force. The Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary is ineffective and this is a national disgrace.

Many police personnel are incompetent in their performance and the effect of their non-performance makes the government lose millions of kina in trying to maintain law and order issues in PNG. Our people do not have any trust in our police personnel who are on and off duty.

From the late 1970s to the early 1990s, our police force was more effective than what we have today.
In most cases today police are ignorant in their response and performance towards the public who they are duty-bound to serve.

Police response to public cry for help is: There is not enough vehicle to attend to your complaint, or no fuel or the vehicle is attending to other complaints. This is the same old sick RPNGC we have.

Port Moresby is our capital city but driving around, I see many road users, especially PMVs and taxi drivers, driving like people in a primitive and uncivilised world.

They are careless and dangerous drivers, not even caring about the road regulations; it is disgusting to them doing this everyday.
Do we have any authorities that are responsible for controlling and policing the city’s road users?

Our police force, traffic officers and the Road Safety Authority are conducting road blocks and checks at some particular places but there is no improvement as yet from the road users.

It is better for our police to pull up their socks because many people are sick and tired of their lack of performances. We are the ones who pay for your improved pay and living conditions and we are the only taxpayers who are watching them getting lazier and lazier and trigger-happy at the same time.

Their sense of community relations and obligations are long gone. It is a disgrace to see them in betelnut-stained uniforms continuing to chew more buais and smoking away as if we live in a society free of lawlessness.

I get sicker every day as I watch this routine repeated in front of my eyes, coupled with beating the hell out of a few big-headed youths whose only crime may have been telling the police to act like members of a disciplined force.

I think acting Police Commissioner Tony Wagambie should clean up his backyard.
The Royal PNG Constabulary is the pride of our people, not a family-owned security firm, not even owned by an individual MP including the prime minister.
Yes, the taxpayers are paying big bucks to keep this force operational so that it can serve us better.

We are not paying you to terrorise our people, bash them up, shoot school children dead or beat up their own wives for good measure.
Show us some discipline, you owe it to us. We need someone like Geoffrey Vaki for the top cop post to show his subordinates what discipline is really about.
