Stability or Change

The people of PNG voted for their respective members to represent them. The PM is chosen from those elected members by numbers; not the GG. An overwhelming majority of the members of Parliament voted to oust Somare and replace him with O'Neill; that means the overwhelming majority of PNGs want Somare gone. If the process was not right then the Supreme Court will rule on it. It is not the prerogative of Michael Somare to bull-doze his way back in. That is the exact behavior that cost him his place in the first place he showed no respect for law or standing orders or correct procedure or the Judiciary. Here he goes again acting like a dictator as if the Parliament belongs to him and his cronies. It belongs to the people and the people have spoken through their duly elected representatives; 70 to 24.

The 2007 General Elections was conducted under the rules of the now defunct Integrity of Political party scenario, and the GG did invite him to form the Government I am looking for political stability upon which we can demand and expect productivity and solutions to many of our problems, Dr Mahathir from Malaysia was widely condemn both within Malaysia and the International Community to an extent where people like former Aussie PM Paul Keating called him names but in retrospect he provided 22 years Prime Ministership with plenty of political stability from which Malaysia has become what it is today in our political scene I don’t see any leader who can provide political stability, not even Abal could keep his own tribesman, fellow Engan Polye who speaks the same language in check and Abal cannot rule over his wantok I doubt whether O’Neill can we will revert to a new Government every 18months, new Dept. Heads, new vision, new ideas, thus we strive once again on the "chopping & changing empire

Without a doubt those are some of the pressing issues that have emerged during Somare's tenure, but it still remains a fact that we need political stability. Early on since PNG obtain Independence the Government used to change every 6 months, and progress development were inevitably slow or almost non-existence due to the "chop and change empire" and so the law was change to the current low 18 months, and still we were changing Governments every 18 months, and again due to lack political stability Sir Mekere in his wisdom introduce the Law on the Integrity of political parties, but Danaya took to court and threw out I don’t think condemning Somare at every available opportunity is going to fix our problems. Perhaps what we need is bring ECP back, bring back Australian Federal Police, and introduce Australian style Government where we get to election every 3 years that way nobody stays long enough to familiarise themselves with wrong doing, and we get the opportunity to replace Leaders and if we are really happy with one particular leader than we can bring back every 3 years not that we patronising Aussies but their system has been yielding positive results

Beautiful Melanesian system and its etiquette is just that beautiful to provide stability we need an intervention maybe the proposed ECP beef up the police with AFP, the prosecution, the Ombudsman, various other agencies that will be afraid to bring anyone to Justice. On top of that reduce the term of Parliament to 3 years instead of 5 years. Three year term will encourage productivity rather than thievery. Suffice to suggest that non performing Parliamentarians will his or her seat they are not delivering Election promises that’s what I would to see. My support for Somare is purely on the grounds of stability as it is who says the next crop of Government will not apply the tried and tested method Somare had used to remain in power.
