Lae Burning....11 confirmed dead.... many wounded...more updates this morning...

UPDATES FROM FACEBOOK PNGNEWS PAGE

All highlanders met at Kamkumu and said they agree with the cause of the actions of the morobeans but disagree with the nature of the actions in which innocent people were hurt and innocent properties damaged.

The highlanders told senior polices reps that should the morobeans approach their neighourhoods and pose a threat their lives and properties then they will retaliate in self depense

The highlanders also called for morobean leaders to intervene and contain the situation or else more blood will be spilled as they will neither retreat nor surrender.

People fleeing the scene have just brought reports that morobeans are looting, burning and chasing highlanders who stay at Bumayong and Tent city.

The situation is still tense. About 40 recent grad cops were reported to have been sent to Lae from Pom as reinforcement.

All other areas of Lae city is virtually quite. Families will soon run out of food ration, fuel and other necessaties as all shops and service stations have closed down.

The highlanders also plan to do their bit of peaceful protest much on Monday. We hope and pray that we should see some nomalcy by Tuesday or there after

FROM Reuben Mete: Mobile Police from Port Moresby deployed this morning to Lae to boost police man power has shoot to death 6 Morobean Youths. Many have been wounded...were attending to them now, putting water to stop blood.

FROM Belinda Kora: Prime Minister, O'Neill, is now on his way back to Port Moresby from the Canoe Festival in Alotau, and sources close to him confirm that he is expected to formally announce a SOE for Lae this afternoon after seeking first an update to the situation on ground.

FROM Meck J Minnala: i dropped in at Angao hospital A&E section and you don't want to know what i saw - at least 2 people were dead on arrival at the hausik. A poilceman there was telling the hospital staff to go home early becoz they will not have manpower and resources to counter any worse case scenerio should it happen. I drove to Eriku and it was the quitest scene of Eriku i have ever seen.

FROM Jimmy Samuel Orea: I'm currently in Lae on duty travel. Couldn't get out yesterday n today. Will try tumoro. Situation quite but tense. Hotels understaffed, security guards doing extra shif s, people out of cash, looking to use hotel atm but the atms restricted to in-house guests so life is certainly hard rait now. Just walked ova to a nite market n u wont believe but they are selling a pkt of rice for K8, 500gr sugar @ K6, small diana & noodles K2, favourite buai K2 & all cigarettes @ K1 loose

Joel Waramboi via Sharp Talk: I hear that POLICE..yes the police are shooting people death (11 confirmed deaths so far) in Lae. It just makes me sick. People are showing their frustrations for a duty that was supposed to be done by police, that is, to protect the people in Eriku, Town and Lae as a whole. They have failed miserably in the first place to uphold their duty. Now they see fit to kill people who are fighting for a crime-free city. I would say..kill the policemen

  1. The police has failed all these years. They dont care about you or your rights. They dont care about your property and civil liberties. Were living in a police state and its getting worse even. What hope we had left is long gone when we sold out our resources and land to corrupt multinational corporations.
