Is Australia interested in our Mess?

Obviously yesterday's Post Courier front page read "CHIEF JUSTICE ARRESTED". Some crazy petty allegation will be made like he double dipped on his car allowance, or his travel allownace, or his entertainment allowance or ordered more toilet paper than necessary for the Court House. Some allegation that he could have explained and dealt with at the JLSC. Some allegation that his administrative staff could explain or sort out or even produce receipts for etc. Its not as if he ran a private army and created havoc in Vanimo or was implicated in an open NASFUND Commission of Inquiry as having stolen millions of Kina. The criminals who are raping our women folk and guilty of armed robbery are still out there. But this government is hell-bent on arresting the chief Justice of this country. Ominous signs, my friends.

Papua New Guinea, when you wake up today and read the Post Courier, your worst fears will be realized. No, this is not Africa. This is PNG, and this is your new reality.

We know the ONeill-Namah government has just made up petty allegations of criminality. They will be dealt with, and probably dismissed. However, they will have destroyed the Office of the Chief Justice and the career of a good Papua New Guinean, and a very good Engan. Power at all cost!  The time honoured respect and inviolability of that office will have been crushed underfoot in the rush to maintain political power. Power corrupts, and ultimate power corruptly ultimately, it has been said. This is an indication of ultimate power corrupting ultimately.

The Engan people on both sides of the political spectrum have been very quiet. They, above all other Papua New Guineans, have been the best behaved of all throughout this dark period of our history. They have not protested when Don Polye was removed by Somare. They have not protested when Abal was deposed illegitimately. They have not protested when Polye was  publicly stripped of the Finance Portfolio. They have gathered in various Hausmans and have quietly commiserated their losses. In Hauskrais they are the first to say let the law be upheld. If anything, Engans have demonstated that they are both tolerant and law abiding on bigger issues and when they need to.

But can we take them for granted as a nation? How much further can we push them, or can they be pushed around by ceratin individuals?

But now to add insult to injury, this, this obvious act disgrace to the Engan people in the arrest and stripping of the Chief Justice, making the highest law officer of the land a criminal. It is perhaps the greatest act of provocation of the Engan people ever! This man has not stolen Peter ONeills and Belden Namah's wives or pigs or their lands. He is not a politician. He simply goes about his job, which is not an easy one at that. Someone had to be appointed Chief Justice of the country, and why not Salamo Injia, one of the clinical legal brain of this country, in the footsteps of  late Sir Mari Kapi. Men like them are rare in any country. He was legitimately appointed. But now he faces an illegitimate government, illegitimately stripping him and making him look like a common criminal. Why go about deliberately provoking the people of Enga by disgracing one of their best and finest sons? What makes Peter ONeill or Belden Namah so special to do this?

In the same breath as ordering the arrest of the Chief Justice, two squads of Mobile Police are already in Wewak to arrest and terrorize the East Sepik PEC Members who have taken on the ONeill-Namah Regime in the Supreme Court Reference questioning its legitimacy. They are armed to the teeth to shoot to kill any resistance by anyone.

You are entitled to ask why? PEC members are Honourable Members of Parliament like Oneill and Namah. They are all leaders of their people. No one is better or greater than the other. They all have their powers and functions under the Constitution as MPs of various Parliaments. What gives the ONeill-Namah government legitimacy to use the executive powers to direct Police and army personel to arrest or shoot Provincial MPs? They are well within their rights to question the acts of ONeill-Namah on 2nd Ausgust 2011, and they were vindicated by the Courts. Any aggrieved person is entitled to have his grievance heard by the Courts. That is not a crime.

Provincial issues of mismanagement of funds is a matter for Auditor General and Public Accounts Committee. There are set audit, inquiry and  reporting processes as we know. The Provincial Treasury Office is run by National Treasury so they should have all information in Port Moresby,  if that what they want. What the Oneill-Namah regime is currently engaged  is naked  and shameful abuse of power. Using the Police and Defence as tools of oppression and aggression toward the people is an open act of provocation of the people of East Sepik.

In 1975 we came together as a people, signed a social contract as it were, with each other as disparate groups of tribal people, to become one nation under one Constitution. The Constitution is the embodiment of that social contract. Now if the ONeill-Namah Regime wants to throw that Constitution, and its institutions like the Judiciary, the offices of Auditor General and the Public Accounts Committee, the Office of the Chief Justice down the river, and take up arms against the people, then we must as a nation ask ourselves why should we remain as a nation? That is a legitimate question.

We have taken up arms against the people once in Bougainville, and the result has been catastrophic. The Police and the army swore on the bible an oath to protect the people, people like the chief Justice, people like  the the ESP PEC Members. If they cannot be offered protection under the Constitution, and if we will not respect each other as people, then why should we all remain as a nation?

I think it is to this very point, and paddock, that the Australians, used to mustering cattle and their own indigenous races, have been mustering us into, and they have been doing well thanks to Peter Oneill. Upon granting political  recognition to a regime that was still under Supreme Court deliberations of its legitimacy, they put their foot in their mouth. When the Supreme Court eventually under the Chief Justice decided otherwise, they realized thay were wrong to pre-empt the Supreme Court. The apparently pre-mature recognition of ONeill regime was a supposed cue for Sir Salamo Injia to follow, and he didnt. Since then they have been aiding ONeill by their silences, nods and winks to destroy the Chief Justice.

The Australians blame the Chief Justice for that decision. (What right they have to be miffed is another matter). The fact of the matter is that they have been so miffed and stung, they marched two or theree of their own judges into our National Court. They are paying them and looking after them to be Judges on our Courts. How magnanimous of them ( and Iam not going discuss the obvious geo-political conflict of interest issues surrounding Australian paid and pampered Judges on our courts here) save to say, there is a definite agenda to muzzle and control the Courts and the Court decisions by Australia.

With all that as a backdrop, it is not at all surprising that yesterdays Post Courier has reported ''AUSAID to ensure Elections are on time". I cannot recall when in the history of this country the Electrol Commission has abdicated its constitutional function of conducting elections ( and it is very experienced at that) to the Australian government. [Can anybody?] How can  Ausaid take over a Constitutional function of the relevant Constitutional Body?

Todays Post Courier answers that. It reveals a Report that Ausaid ( and Cardno a paid contractor to the Australian government) presented to the ONeill-Namah Regime saying they want Trawen sacked, they want certain other officers sacked and a lot of changes done to the Electoral process. Infact the list of things needed to be done is deliberately done to look like- hey, Peter ONeill you cannot run these elections without Australia, Australian personel and Australian money. One one hand they push ONeill to go for elections as planned. One the other hand they want all these things fixed, and they wink at ONeill...as if to say, get us in and we will ensure you return, but we wont allow those others  to return.

It is a two pronged foreign policy line they are running. They say: If this regime makes the Engans and Sepiks angry enough, there will be civil strife, then we will get the two battle ready battalions in Townsville to move in and take control of the country RAMSI style. That is option one.

If that does not happen, we will encourage the current trend to destroy the Chief Justice, and weaken the judiciary to point of having majority Australian Judges on the bench. Then we take control of the election process and ensure the people the Australian government want get elected. Ausaid has never been involved in the election process. This recent Report is tailor made to get them in. They want to influence and control the election process. Right now Australia is moving logistics planning and doing a lot of back end maneouvering to nullify the army and the Police to come under their command to run the elections their way.

That way both the Parliament and the Judiciary will be controlled, and we will do the bidding of Canberra. Now, wouldnt that be a wonderful world!

The thing that ONeill and Namah cannot bet on is what the Australians are really thinking, and what they really want. After they give them free reign, it will be too late. The Australians have the dirt on both of them.

In the mean time, the game is, take over, control, and strip us of our resources. That is the only game in town.
