Break down in the security forces is a cause for concern.

By: Tobias Kulung MP

The politicising and neglect by successive government has cause towards the disciplinary forces has completely eroded the command and control structure of these forces and has caused a total collapse in discipline in these forces.

This is a massive internal security threat and should be treated as a “state of emergency” situation and the government must take drastic measures to divert its attention from other programs and address this critical situation promptly.

“Life, liberty and security of the person and the protection of the law “ is the number one basic right enshrined in our constitution.

When a government cannot provide for this very basic right of its people, than it has failed miserably.
When we have a very important and venerable group of our society under siege by an armed group of soldiers in the capital city of our country and in broad day light and under the very nose of the political and administrative hierarchy of our country and the police are powerless and can do nothing, this is a very serious cause for concern.

It looks like the army can make their own call outs instead of the NEC and the police are deciding whoever boss they want to listen.

These are clear signs that there is complete anarchy in the disciplinary forces and this is the major security threat to our nation at the moment.

When are we going to see some bold decision where the leadership structure of the disciplinary forces taken task?

By now we are suppose to see some jail commanders sacked, some unit commanders or PPCs and even the highest hierarchy of leadership in these forces disciplined for such break downs.

When it comes to the security of our nation, we cannot take mediocre approaches but take bold decisions.
We are calling on the government to apply the same level of urgency and enthusiasm as it has towards the likes of NCD roads project, towards fixing the problems in the security forces.

If the government can exceed expenditure limits as appropriated under the 2013 national budget and front load these funding, it should do the same for these major crisiS facing the nation today.

The people do not need apologies only but action from their Prime Minister and Government of the day.
The security of the people must not be sacrifice for benefit of the foreign companies who are being paid huge sums of money for a select list of infrastructure developments in the country.

If the government has ears, it must put in on the ground and listen to the sentiments of our people. There is anger and frustration on the streets and anything can happen anytime soon if we do not manage the situation effectively.

If security is not guaranteed for our people, how can they enjoy the infrastructure development all the other stuff that the government is spending too much money and time on?
