Kapris is Dead but His Legacy Lives on

By  LUCAS KIAP

It is very sad and emotional for me when people celebrate over a dead man, whom has families and relatives, and they will definitely be wept and cried over his dead body no matter what the society thinks of what kind of person he was.

In this world no one is perfect in the eyes of the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth. All men have sinned and he is one of them, unfortunately, he is the most obvious scapegoat of all the misconception we have had about the laws of this country, and he has paid the price with his life.

As long as the laws of this country are concerned, he has broken the laws of this country and the court needs to prove that and put him behind bars not to mentioned the risk he perceived to pose to the society and our law enforcers which eventually led to his death.

He is already a dead man now and PNG as usual will soon get over with it. The question is – are we really satisfied of his death because the State has spent so many millions of kina hunting down a wanted bank robber and criminal? Unfortunately, those who are responsible for not providing and maintaining adequate security at the prison where he was last held before his escape will not share any blame or take responsibility of his escape which eventually lead to the State commit such resources. So the least we can expect now is – we must anticipate more breakouts in the future because we haven’t get to the bottom of prison breakouts in the country.

There are also concerns surrounding his death. According to the Post Courier report regarding his killing (Wednesday, July 24, 2113), it was reported that there were some accomplices with the late Kapris before he was shot dead but the report does not say if they too have been killed. If it is confirmed that there were accomplices at the time of Kapri’s killing and if they were not killed, then this raises a lot of questions about the circumstances how he was killed. Most likely, he must have surrounded and they killed him instead. Even he is a wanted criminal; he too deserves justice like any other citizens of this country until it is proven otherwise by a court of law like in the case of all white-collar criminals in the country.

Finally, if white-collar criminals who are responsible for stealing millions if not billions of public funds every year – the funds meant to provide basic services to the rural people are still at large, then is killing of Kapris and celebrating over his death - will it solves all our problems? The poor fellow who stole money from the banks is dead but the white-collar criminals who steal money form the peoples’ pockets are still around. Thus, Kapris’s Legacy still lives on through the white-collar criminals and the suffering increases every time we thought our prayers have been answered.
