Fiji changing regional geopolitics

By DAVID EPHRAIM

A new constitution was released last month paving a way for democratic elections Fiji. Come elections it's highly likely that Frank Bainimarama will be elected. He will than continue the major economic and social reforms initiated under military rule.

A step now acknowledge by Australia and New Zealand, United State's was fully supportive of the regime in back donor diplomatic and trade relations. Why because Fiji's success in international peace keeping at UN deployments in Iraq and other war torn areas including current deployment of 500 personals between Israel and Syria borders.

The United State also has increasing investment precess in tourism and other industries in Fiji.

Fiji's success is liken to Turkey and South Korean coup than lead to massive change and growth lifting people's standard of living.

Not only that but prior to releasing Fiji's new constitution, Fiji initiated a new regional Forum group based in Fiji. Pacific Island Development Forum, fully endorsed and supported by Pacific Island Council of Churches and number of pacific island leaders including former Pacific Island Forum secretary Sir. Noel Levi from New Ireland province Papua New Guinea.

The path taken by Fiji is now influencing political shifting in way regional geopolitical issues are addressed.

it's an important path, Papua New Guinea is loosing because of her focus on so-called foreign direct investment, though we have turn away from militarization and colonial debate the fact is that, We as a country have gone to bed with multi-nationals who have already taken away our future.

Instead they give us peanuts to fight among ourselves while they ship everything out just as they did in Africa, The reality is just like Africa our social development indexes are portraying and feeding aid agencies with justification of hunger, rape, violence and list of things you name to call for more donation and global aid funding to assist us.

The fact is no developing country in the world have succeeded under aid, Instead it took political leadership to negotiate and drive real development based a fundamental forms of economic models that translate growth into lifting people out of low income category into middle income category.

The responsibility of government is to manage the transition not suffocate by meddling into economic benefits of our country.

Though we can never be like Fiji but in 20 years from now, we all will admire Fiji as the Singapore of the Pacific while our country will turn into Nigeria of the Pacific given the way our form of governance is managed.

I have no idea why Papua New Guinea politician can't put aside past mistakes and work together to form a political regime that will take ownership of the economic productivity and stimulate social progress and improve lives of people with basic fundamentals of universal access to quality health and education, protection and promotion of social justice. security and stability of society and rule of law.
