AMERICAN EMBASSY IN PORT MORESBY WONT SUPPORT COMMUNIST UNITECH!

The American embassy sent their number 2 ambassador Melanie Higgins to speak at Unitech 2 weeks ago. This was almost like sending Obama to give a speech supporting Bin laden!

The American government must know that some higher administrators at Unitech support free speech in name only.   Yesterday a Unitech staff member Mr Ken Polin exercised his constitutional right of free speech by speaking peacefully in front of administration to few hundred students and staff.   This speech was reported by EMTV news yesterday
evening.

What was not reported by EMTV was that about 15 minutes into his talk, security guards arrived and one tried to silence this man. They moved in to turn off the microphone and take away the speaker.The security guard later told students that security was called at the request of Unitech lawyer Simon Sengi. This is amazing since all legal students learn about our PNG constitution in law school. Does Mr Sengi not understand the constitutional guarantee of free speech?  What kind of university does not allow free speech in the world?

The only reason why security did not drag the staff member away and silence his voice was because the students immediately stopped it.For some reason Mr Simon Sengi did not want the students to hear the words of this Unitech staff. We hope that his actions were not approved of by the Acting VC John Pumwa especially since Prof Pumwa studied in America and certainly knows that free speech is a vital part of any democracy.

Mr Polin was speaking about the communist way that PNG government has treated the popular and legitimate VC of Unitech, Dr Albert Schram. He told the crowd that Unitech staff were big supporters for Schram to come back.

In general it seems that free speech is welcomed at Unitech only when people say things not interesting to anyone and not considered a threat to anyone's job or power.   Boring  uninteresting free speech is always ok!

On the other hand if the words are sharp, touches sensitive topics or begins to build support for change, efforts are made to stop it, starting with  disapproving looks or comments. On the other hand it is strange that this Unitech administration lets some threatening talk pass by without comment. Best example was last November when a threat letter was received by staff throughout Unitech warning them to look down, say nothing and not interfere with an effort to take over Unitech administration by allies of the former Unitech council.

This letter looked like it was written by mafia, threatening and unpleasant.Yet the administration never issued a statement saying they were disgusted about it because it went against the democratic principles for Unitech employees to be free of harrasment.Unitech administration stayed silent and let fear take hold.

During SRC election last September students were not allowed to post opinions and information on issues without those papers being torn down.  Any postings that promoted Schram were taken and thrown in rubbish bins.  Unitech is not at all like Australia or America seems more like the university is trying to become a small piece of China or
maybe North Korea.

Unitech administration are not letting students hear VC Albert Schram's welcome speech to students because they do not want Schram back so they can keep their power.  Acting VC wants to keep students in the dark about Schram. Unitech does not welcome basic human right of free speech and political expression.    Think twice American embassy and Melanie Higgins before you support unitech where law abiding staff can't speak out peacefully without security guards being called out to stop them.

Unitech land of communism!   Thank you for the introduction to dictatorship, Lawyer Simon Sengi.  Acting VC Pumwa and other members of senior executive management, will you be making a reassuring statement of the right to free speech at Unitech?  Or will you let human rights be trampled by saying nothing?

MARAPE & PAITA ABOUT TO SIGN AWAY PNG GOLD
