CAN WE AFFORD ANOTHER DAY WITH O’NEILL AS PRIME MINISTER?

By  Reginal Haureva-Kokoda

Can this nation (of largely poor subsistence farmers eking a living out of the sweat of their brow, hardly able to afford any modern conveniences, at whose expense and to whom those of us reading this blog owe a moral duty of care and concern), afford another day with Peter O'Neill as Prime Minister of this country? Can we who have been reasonably educated, have access to a computer, have a reasonably paid jobs or have the ability to hold a good job, raise families, and have a reasonable expectation of a satisfactory life in a safe, affluent and prosperous society, afford another day with Peter ONeill as Prime Minister of this country?

Can our Children, born and unborn, innocent as they are, having the rights guaranteed by our Constitution and the various UN Declarations of human rights, having a right to reasonable health care and education, having the right to grow up in a safe open tolerant society underpinned by a strong cultural heritage, having reasonable access to tertiary education in Universities or other training institutions, afford another day with Peter O'Neill as Prime Minister of this country?

Can our old people in our villages and in our homes that we care for, our disabled and our terminally ill that we morph our love around and care for out of our meagre resources, our mentally ill and our mentally challenged, our pregnant mothers and our young children and womenfolk being victims of physical and mental abuse and other social ills, afford another day with Peter O'Neill as Prime Minister of this nation?

Can our people who are living with HIV Aids and other terminal illnesses, our womenfolk the victims of abuse and domestic violence, our men and womenfolk who live with the stigma of being accused of sorcery, our people who have fallen on the wrong side of the law languishing in prisons throughout the country with no or little hope of rehab, afford to have this man Peter O'Neill as Prime Minister for one more day?

Can our public servants and those who work in statutory corporations like PNG Power Ltd, B-Mobile, Air Niugini, PNG Ports Corporation, Petromin, PNGSDPL, being members of various Unions, whose afflictions in terms of Housing, Real wages, job promotion and incentives are non-existent, afford one
more day with Peter O'Neill as Prime Minister?

Can our Soldiers in Moem, Igam, Taurama, Murray, Goldie and other Barracks throughout this nation, underpaid, under trained, under equipped, under-resourced, their professionalism and orderly
progression through the ranks undermined, their role in a developing and challenging world misunderstood and outgunned, really afford another day with Peter O'Neill as their Prime Minister?

I echo the same question of the once proud Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary, the nation’s Correctional Officers, the nation’s firemen, and other disciplinary forces. Can these proud men and women who have joined the services with will to serve their nation, at this hour honestly say whether they can afford to have Peter O'Neill as their Prime Minister for one more day?

Can our students in various Universities and colleges, and in particular, can the Unitech students, whose cries and pleas have been heard and echoed from as far away as Europe and the United
States, can these future leaders of this nation, the greatest resource of this nation, can these young people who have a right to a fair and decent education, who are intelligent enough to hold an intelligent conversation and ask intelligent questions and seek honest and truthful answers of their leaders, afford one more day with Peter O'Neill at the helm of this nation as Prime Minister?

Ever since Peter O'Neill has become Prime Minister of this country, he has been busy minting money for himself. That’s all he cares about day and night. He does not care about this nation and its 7 Million Plus population. He does not care about us, our old people, our sick people, our civil servants or our children.  He does not give two hoots about what becomes of the homeless children and orphans in both rural and urban centres that is fast becoming a huge social problem. He does not care about the disabled and the terminally infirmed.

All he cares about is himself, how much money he can make for himself and his family. He wants to be the richest man in PNG and the Pacific. He wants to use his money to control the politics by buying politicians and the police protection and the influence he needs to stay in power. What took many rich men their life time to make through hard work and sweat, ONeill wants to steal, and has been stealing from us, our children, our old people, our civil servants, our pregnant mothers, our disabled and our terminally ill.

As If the hundreds of Millions he has already stolen or improperly obtained through his days with Bill Skate, through NPF, through that failed Housing project with Fred Reiher, through the Tenders Board Contracts, through Lae-Nadzab Road Contract and other Road Contracts through his own company Global Constructions and through other Contractors like Covec -China Rail- Curtain Bros and Dekenai, through MRDC and its Fijian Pearl Resort Acquisition, through increased Pokies Licenses via Minister Duban when he was at Gaming Board, through Remington Group and their failed Satellite Project, through Remington Group supply of consumables to the State and State entities when O'Neill was Public Services Minister.

Through his Finance Company RIFL taking over K5 Million from PNG Harbors Board in investments and never repaid it, through Global building a short 2KM stretch of road from 5 Mile NBC to 7 mile (now sub-ed to Hebou) for well over K100 Million taking 3 years when the job could have been done for less than K10 Million in less than 6 Months, through Office Allocation into Tripoli Building organized by John Kali, through fake projects submitted to Planning Department in 2011-2012, through Aircraft Vendor’s kick backs ( via Wasantha Kumarasiri) for the purchase of the PM’s Falcon Jet, through the State paying K6 Million Hospital refurbishment contract given to L& A Bricklayers in 2012 when they did not do any work on that Ausaid funded project, through State building renovation and Parliament renovation contracts given without tender to L & A Bricklayers worth over K100 Million, and I can go on and on for the next hour, but I don’t want to bore you to tears.

The recent kick-backs he has already received from the UBS Loan is the icing on the cake. Some bloggers and mentioned the figure K400 million. It is the single most significant amount he has ever received corruptly or otherwise.  The rights and wrongs of this loan has had sufficient airing. We all acknowledge this is corruption of a grand magnitude. There has been enough detractors for this loan, even from his own Ministers, but the way O'Neill has sacked Polye and Duma to facilitate this transaction shows clearly how hell bent is this Prime Minister to be corrupt. It also shows that he does not care about the future well being of this nation. He has not flinched or hesitated about the fact that he is ransacking our Sovereign Wealth fund and compromised all our income stream from both LNG Projects.
Mr ONeill has not explained where he is going to get the money to fund our 22.5% equity in Pac LNG. He thinks he is going to borrow again and pay for it! IF so, when is this nation going to receive income stream for its gas resources being extracted? Looks like Peter O'Neill wants us to become slaves of the west for the rest of our lives. If this is the best he can do. If this is the best he can perform as Prime Minister, then I am sorry to inform him and his government that the PM’s performance is not good enough. It is absolutely unacceptable to us the 7.5 Million people of this country.

When Peter ONeill was ushered in as Prime Minister after the 2012 Elections, a deliberate decision was made by Pius Wingti, Sir Julius Chan and Sir Michael Somare, to support him. Today, we the students of Unitech and the public of PNG have made up our mind. We are holding Wingti, Chan and Somare
responsible for creating this MONSTER. Peter ONeill is Wingti, Chan and Somare’s private MONSTER. This MONSTER is their making and they must listen to us, the people, and act with haste to get rid of it, because it is already eating up the livestock and everything on the farm and we won’t have anything left to feed the rest of us and our children. We can no longer allow thieves masquerading as leaders to bring dishonour to us and this nation.

We cannot allow Peter ONeill to defile our honour and dignity as a people of this land who have an abiding
responsibility to be good stewards of our resources live responsibly, leave this place a better place than when we found it, for the sake of the next generation. That is why, this nation cannot afford to have Peter ONeill as Prime Minister for one more day!

IT IS TIME TO ARISE , ALL YE SONS OF THIS LAND!
