The Movement of MPs in Parties causing instability in PNG Politics

By JASON GIMA WURI

There is no need to have so many political parties, the constitution of this land needs to be amended and laws enacted so politicians do not move like frogs jumping here and there. Where there is no vision, people perish. Recently there were four MPs that resigned from THE Party, looks like the so called MP's don't have their own visions so they are dancing to the music of others.

We only need few political parties in PNG to lead this nation forward, too many parties’ leads to the lack of stability. Our MP's need to come down on their knees and ask God for wisdom like Solomon did. They need to repent and turn from their wicked ways and humble themselves and pray. Then God said, I will hear from heaven, forgive their sins and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14.

Papua New Guinea Media outlets reported the four members were Forest Minister Douglas Tomuriesa, Higher Education Minister Delilah Gore, Labour and Industrial Relations Minister Benjamin Poponawa and member for Ijivitari, David Arore.

It came after Prime Minister Peter O'Neill's sacking of the party leader Don Polye as treasurer and his subsequent move to the opposition.

The resigning MPs said they still support the O'Neill/Dion government and that they had made the move in the interests of their constituents who want them in the government.

The MPs said the other members of THE Party will be resigning later this week.
However Papua New Guinea's Registrar of Political Parties and Candidates says the four members of Triumph Heritage Empowerment Party who wish to defect are still technically in that party.

The four MPs, including three cabinet ministers, have indicated they want to defect to the ruling Peoples National Congress party.

But Alphonse Gelu says they still belong to their original party until all administrative processes regarding their move are completed.

Dr Gelu says the PNC party must also write to him to advise that they accept the new proposed members.

Meanwhile the Opposition continues to stand firm with its five members and are continuing the fight against corruption led by their outspoken Leader Hon. Belden Namah.
There are very few of us in the Opposition but we share common traits of value and principles. We have integrity and moral standards,” Mr Namah says.

We will wait to see if more MPs will resign from Don Polyes party. Papua New Guinea politics has all the hallmarks of "Judas Iscariot" spirit.

They live with you, stay with you, walk with you, talk with you, dine with you, kiss you on the cheek, part with you and then betray you. All for 30 pieces of silver. The story does not end there though. Suicide is the next thing on the agenda when things back fire. They did not resign for the sake of government stability. They resigned for the sake of their wallets stability.

It has always been political prostituting in PNG politics , nothing new but in PNG's short political history there were only perhaps less than 7 political kingpins. Peter O’Neill seems to be the small still voice walking inside the brains of current MPs marrying with him in government or cabinet. It has always been interesting that current members of cabinet are well respected personalities from all walks of life.

Also the old dogs and former Prime Ministers in Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare, Paias Wingti, and Sir Julius Chan are at absolute peace with Peter O’Neill at the helm. What more can you expect from O’Neill who has been in the league of power brokers since 1996 or 5 years before he entered parliament. I think he is probably an old dog too and can predict political emotions faster and deal with it with immense patience. The year 2017 will be the time to take him out. It’s easier said than done but never impossible.
