Social Media Groundbreaking comment: “He's staying on for another 10 yrs whether you like or not...”

I find the longer comments and  debates that are posted directly on the PNGBlogs page to be more thought out and revealing than the hurriedly posted comments on Facebook PNGBlogs.   There aren’t many supporters of Peter O’Neil giving comments on the social media and that is true on PNGBlogs too.  There are a few however and its worth paying close attention to their words. It reveals why they would so vocally support a man who carries such heavy baggage as being disreputable and corrupt.  For PNG to elect and re-elect a nearly proven conman like him would not be unexpected considering that we suffer under such low education standards and lack of information available to everyone.

Recently on many social media sites we find more comments, speculation and suspicion that the PM is secretly putting a plan in place to create a dictatorship without need for fighting or violence.   Even without the violence this would normally be a repulsive goal under any circumstances.  However I have noticed for the last couple months that when this idea comes up, the PM’s supporters do not refute it or pay much attention.   They continue to support O’Neil.

Today I was reading the latest comments to the various articles on the PNG Blogs main page.  I saw some recent comments that were posted regarding the new university for Pangia.  What caught my eye were some comments by those who obviously support Peter O’Neill.  They were:

“And don't forget this: PM O'niell will reign for at least a decade and half, that's for sure.......Bring it on...........................

““He's staying on for another 10 yrs whether you like or not...”

Sometime you have to be doubtful whether these comments are genuine.  In these cases, however, it was not just brief comments. What I put above were statements that followed debate points, made strongly enough and with enough substance that the writer can be reasonably believed as genuine in his feelings.

This is the first time I have seen on the vibrant PNG social media populated by many thousands, that a coming dictatorship is inevitable and it is what the PM is planning.  I have heard these rumours for months within the government but now it is coming out everywhere even from the PM’s supporters.
It is as frightening a situation as I have ever seen in PNG.  For even the PM’s supporters to now talk openly about dictatorship indicates that our country is turning a corner into sinister, unchartered territory.

May God help PNG avoid the fate of dictatorship.  All of us who are Christians must stop sitting back as passive observers but do whatever we need to do to uphold the democratic principles that are embodied in the Bible and the basis for creation of democracies all over the world.

Let us not turn our backs on the Bible at this critical point in our history
