VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE AGAINST PETER O'NEILL OR SINK WITH PNC IN 2017

WILL PNC MPs MOVE A VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE AGAINST PETER O'NEILL TO SAVE THEMSELVES BEFORE 2017?

by VINCENT MOSES

The above question has been asked a number of times over the life of this Parliament but so far, it seems no MP within PNC has been brave enough or popular enough to wrestle the leadership of the party away from Peter O'Neill.

With so many controversies surrounding the leadership of Peter O'Neill, many of which are now threatening the very survival of this nation, questions are being asked if his own MPs will finally decide that enough is enough.

PNC Party is becoming increasingly unpopular as controversy after controversy continues to follow this Prime Minister and this government. Judging from comments on Social Media, particularly Facebook, the overwhelming indication is that PNC will face a huge challenge and a huge defeat in the 2017 elections.

History has shown that the people of Papua New Guinea have spoken during elections where unpopular MPs have been dumped and governments have been changed and Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) stands out as a case in point.

Social media comments and sentiments should not be written off as coming from a "minority" because in Papua New Guinea, our community and tribal links are very strong and the "minority" on Social Media are mostly the "educated elites" within their tribes, villages and communities.
These educated elites have very strong links and influences with their people and if they choose to educate the people about the many unpopular decisions that this PNC led government has made then there is a very high chance that a majority of MPs in the PNC Party together with their coalition partners within government will lose their seats and will not make it back in 2017.

The political survival of members of the current PNC led government is now very much in their own hands. If they are concerned about their political survival beyond 2017 then they must act now to remove Peter O'Neill as Prime Minister and preferably install a charismatic leader who is popular with the people to lead them into the 2017 elections. There are many such leaders within PNC but the question is who among them will move to wrestle the leadership?

Inside sources from within PNC have revealed the following, which give a very strong indication that moves are already underway for a leadership change within PNC;

(1) There's already confidential plans and discussions among PNC members and others in the Government to remove Peter O'Neill as Prime Minister because almost all PNC MPs fear not coming back after the 2017 elections.

(2) PNC MPs realise that having Peter O'Neill as their Party Leader and Prime Minister means their chances of returning are slim to none as the nation is suffering as a result of bad governance and bad decisions being forced on them and on the nation by Peter O'Neill.

(3) Through Social Media, MPs are already aware that there are already plans by various groups of people to conduct awareness before the elections to dethrone PNC throughout the country.
(4) The MPs realise that there is still time for them to show genuine care and concern for the nation and to take a bold stand to remove Peter O'Neill as Party Leader and Prime Minister before 2017, otherwise, it will be too late for them.

(5) Many of the MPs know that they are unpopular through association. Any good they have done over the last 3 years will easily be overshadowed because of their association with the unpopular PM and government.

Papua New Guineans are watching and waiting if MPs within PNC and other coalition partners will have the courage and conviction to bring about a change for the betterment of PNG.
The MPs owe it to themselves and their voters in their respective electorates because Peter O'Neill will most likely make it back but sadly, many of them will not make it back because of him.
Are they willing to sacrifice their future because of this man? Only time will tell, but the test of true leadership is now before them as the country faces some very real challenges that threaten its very existence as a sovereign independent nation.
