3 DOWN, MORE TO GO!
Actually
days ago UNRE joined the fight that UPNG and Unitech have been involved
with. We just weren’t told by the media.

The biggest problem we have in PNG is that
there isn’t enough news being reported.
Some of this is due to the newspapers being very selective about what
they will publish. Much of the problem
is due to people not reporting the news that they eyewitness, even though
nowdays with our mobile phones we can easily take photos, write a short story,
and at least post it on social media. But mipela les lo wokim.
After 3 days of nonreporting the event by
the mainstream media as well as students themselves, finally we are told that
UNRE students went on boycott days ago.
The article in today’s THE NATIONAL newspaper reported that the reason
for the boycott isn’t to pressure the PM to step down but instead, continued
malpractices and maladministration at UNRE.
However, what they are boycotting for is not really much different from
Unlike UPNG and Unitech students, who seem
to be afraid of the police and not very creative in how to get around the
blockage, the UNRE students have been visiting markets and shopping areas,
including schools and creating awareness.
UNRE is not considered a very important
university in the overall university system but UNRE students are ahead of the
game right now in creatively getting around government blocks and doing
awareness about our corrupt PM’s actions to the surrounding communities.
Maybe UPNG and Unitech students should use
UNRE as an example in doing their own awareness outside of campus? The most important thing is not to be
predictable. Do awareness here, there
and everywhere in small groups, showing up, doing awareness, then moving
on.
Finding any photos or information at all on
the internet about UNRE is a big struggle.
UNRE students seem absent from social media. None of them are using the
social media to tell the world what is going on at UNRE. It is not enough to talk with each other on a
closed group Facebook site. The whole world should be told the current
situation at UNRE. UNRE students, learn
from the students of Unitech especially in how to get news out to the world
using the social media. Unitech and UPNG
students, learn from UNRE on how to carry out awareness activities even if your
opponents try to block you from leaving campus or spreading the ugly truths of
what is going on with our government.
