A NEW HOPE - ANTI-CORRUPTION CAMPAIGNER TO RUN FOR WESTERN HIGHLANDS GOVERNORSHIP

by LUCAS KIAP

Some people are complaining about my everyday devotion on the issues and challenges facing our beloved country and our dear lives. They are growing sick and tired of reading my posts. They want me to shut up for good. They are saying I am a Facebook Governor for Western Highlands province because I have been attracting more followers on Facebook. Some are saying that I am going to be eliminated in the first count.

Let me remind you all that I have been writing and advocating against corruption and about the issues affecting the development and progress of the country for the last 20 years since my young days at the University of Technology in 2001.

I wish you all know me better; read my mind, hear my heartbeat and feel the flow of blood running through my veins. I wish it is that easy to give up. I wish I could easily forget everything. I wish I could find the courage to shut up and move on with my life. But I can't. Not even for a second. I can't imagine how my life would be without advocating against corruption. My life revolves around the love of my country. I live, eat and breath PNG. It's all in my blood. If I have to stop then I have to be killed.

Some people are talking about corruption because of their positions. Some people talking about corruption because they are paid to do it. Some people talk about corruption to please others. Some people talk about corruption because everone else is talking about corruption. Some people talk about corruption because they like the attention. But not for me.

For me, I have been advocating and fighting against corruption since 2001 as a youth at the PNG University of Technology because corruption is our worst enemy, growing systematic and systemic – making our lives difficult, limiting our opportunities, making our systems malfunction, setting back our progress, creating loopholes for our systems manipulation, distorting of our democratic values, depriving and denying us of our basic human rights and trapping millions of our citizens in poverty.
I dedicated my life to fight corruption and I will never let outcomes, situations or seasons dictate my stand on corruption. Not even for a second. But I will gladly pay any price to stand up for the truth. Even when all deserted me at the barrel of the gun, I will still stand.

As long as corruption is here, I am not afraid of standing up for the truth.

One day I want this country to be a corruption free country. I want corruption to be part of history and not part of the future. I want our people to live and enjoy a better, decent life fitting for a natural resource rich country like PNG. We all equally deserve best like our rich politicians.
Even if it means to stand up alone, I will.
GOD BLESS PNG
