DON POLYE IS A POLITICAL 'YOYO'

by JOSEPH TAMBSON
A member of Parliament for Kandep Electorate, Don Polye was first elected into the 7th National Parliament in the 2002 General Elections for the Kandep Open seat as a National Alliance Party Candidate.
During his time he never achieved anything great for this country. As his first time in the Opposition he now regrets a fool he was during his political career.
HE WAS APPOINTED AS DEPUTY PM TWICE, HELD MINISTERIAL PORTFOLIOS FOR ALMOST 14 YEARS AND A FIRST TIMER AS OPPOSITION LEADER.
His first appointment was Minister for Transport and Civil Aviation on the 13th August 2002 following the formation of the Somare/Marat government.
He was then given added responsibility as Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology on the 26th July 2005 till 26th January 2006.
He was then appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister on the 7th August 2006 while retaining Transport and Civil Aviation, and relinquishing Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology portfolios.
He was then appointed as Minister responsible for Works, Public Services, Culture and Tourism in the caretaker cabinet on the 13th August, 2007.
He was then appointed as Minister for Works and Transport and Civil Aviation in the Somare-Temu cabinet on the 29th August, 2007 till 14th August 2009.
He was disqualified from parliament by the national court on 14th August, 2009 and then re-elected for the same seat in by-election in December 2009.
Upon his return to parliament he was reappointed as the Minister for Works, Transport and Civil Aviation in January 2010 till December 2010.
He was then Deputy Prime Minister from July to December 2010. and appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Immigration in December 2010 till 2nd August, 2011.
On the eve of 5th September, 2009 he was appointed Minister for Treasury and Finance on the 5th September, 2011 in the O'Neill-Namah cabinet.
Sadly he never accomplished anything tangible or of profound interest for the country. How then can he claim to deliver this country as the Opposition Leader.
