Somare/Abal regime hijacked the constitutional powers

Image
By Johnson Kewa Remoli I know we are not alone in this lengthy public discussion. Concerned citizens should participate as well. Anyway, I do not wish to engage in this debate that will create enmity among us but as a concerned citizen I feel it is necessary to clear the air of misunderstanding which still prevails.  I hope this discussion is healthy and constructive and will lead to a favorable solution. Besides, I do not wish our brothers and sisters to misunderstand my position as I do not benefit from O'Neill/Namah and his associates. In fact, I have no political affiliation and business partnership with either the Somare/Abal or O'Neill/Namah camps. I am an independent thinker and a proud PNGean who stands for transparency, accountability, responsibility, peace, harmony and a vibrant democratic government. Having said that, let me begin by saying that I deeply cherish the honorable views that you reflected and shared and I wish that PNG should not

O'Neill and Nama wielding illegitimate power

Image
Friends, countrymen and country women, since I commenced commenting on this issue on the blogsite, I have been both honoured and privileged to have your thoughts and input and contribution on what is an important issue today. When the our brothers O'Neill/Namah/Nape grabbed power on 2nd August 2011, I scratched my head and tried to make sense of what they were doing. It didn't seem right, so I went and asked my friends for a copy of the Constitution. Finally I found one and I began to read it. Most of it just flew over my head, but I was just interested in following and finding out the source of Executive Legislative and Judicial Power, and who should exercise it.  It was after months of considered thought and contemplation that I have come into the conclusion that our brothers O'Neill/Namah/Nape have done a terrible thing. They have done a serious disservice to this nation and to our children. I already was convinced, that unless the Supreme Court played politics, they wou

A Political Interpretation of O’Neil vs. Somare Political Saga

By Francis Hualupmomi, P.R China    This is a political interpretation of the late recent constitutional crisis underpinning O’Neil and Somare political saga. First, I briefly explain constitutional crisis. There is a logical mutual relationship between constitutional crisis and the political concepts of constitution, sovereignty, legitimacy, authority and anarchy. The Constitution is a written’ rule of law’, which governs the behaviour of actors and institutions in a given state. Sovereignty is the exclusive right to complete control over an area of governance, people, or oneself. A sovereign is the supreme lawmaking authority, subject to no other. Therefore a state is sovereign. Without a constitution there is no sovereignty (Tim, 1998). This gives the impression that it is the constitution that gives supremacy to the state. Legitimacy is about having the ‘right to rule’ over a subject by the “rule of law”. Legitimacy sanctions a state to be sovereign. Authority is having the right t

The Constitution is Supreme

PNGBLOGS Contributor OneCountry responds to critics and makes a point about why the Constitution is supreme, I want to thank you for your comments and contribution. It shows, like me you have all been thinking seriously about what is going on in our country. You have a right to express your views, and that is a great thing. You express them because we live in a democracy. However, that is now in question and put at issue here. We are entering an uncertain phase in our nations history, an unfamiliar place that does not accord with all notions of democracy as we know. The whole nation has been in turmoil. The opinion leaders have been playing politics with the whole thing. Commentators have been on a feeding frenzy, misleading the whole nation. Some of you want me to give my name, but you sign off in your pen names. Others of you call me a coward. Still others call me things that are indecent to repeat. Why? Have I rocked your little comfort zones with the truth? Have I o
