Passengers rewarded by robbers - Friday Funny Story Segment (New)

PASSENGERS on a public motor vehicle were ordered off by a group of thugs but after a while picked up again by the group who then shared their loot with them. The bus was boarded at 7am by a group of six men at the Lae main market. They calmly explained to the driver and passengers that they were taking over the bus for a job they had to do and asked for their cooperation. The PMV driver was off-loaded with the passengers at a location.  At around 8.30am, the bus returned to where they were. The hijackers gave more than K200 to the driver and his crew to distribute to the passengers. They also gave each passenger two packets of cigarette each to thank them for their cooperation. They then told them to leave in the bus. Lae metropolitan commander Supt Nema Mondiai was not available to confirm the incident. But passengers said the thugs had robbed an Asian shop located at the new Wantok Haus complex. Leannes bakery was also reportedly hit by another robbery in the afternoon of the sa

Solicitor General Devete & co conspired with law firm to rip claimant

Its good to talk about Judges Onecountry but the public should also be made aware of whats really going on in our high office of  Solicitor General Mr Neville Devete Firstly, he never turns up at work. He does not do 8-4:06 job as a public servant. For last 4 weeks he has never been in his office once for 8-4 pm work, unless the Minister called for him. Secondly, he never never answers telephone calls. He has no office manners of a High Constitutional Office Holder. Thirdly, he never responds to correspondence, and if he does its after 6 months has passed. Fourthly, he has a system of corruption going that he has organized so nicely that I discovered recently when I kept going back to his office to solve my case. I am a small time road contractor from Simbu. I sacrificed public service job 20 years ago to go home try politics, and live in the village. I started a small contracting company with one truck, and grew to become a sizable contractor employing over 50 people. I had

Gun culture threatens security ahead of 2012 elections

The proliferation and use of illegal guns in Papua New Guinea (PNG) is threatening security ahead of parliamentary elections slated for June 2012, and causing misery and trauma to gun crime victims, says the government. The police, the PNG Electoral Commission and the Inter Department Election Committee (IDEC), a government body overseeing election preparations, are aware of the risks in the run-up to and during the elections. “We are very much aware of the danger that the guns pose on the elections and are making the necessary preparations. We should come up with a budget to ensure that the rights of the people are protected during the elections,” IDEC Chairman Manasupe Zurenuoc told IRIN. Police say they need K120 million (US$40 million) to carry out a public awareness campaign on the law and other operations to minimize security risks during the elections. The central Highlands area, known for tribal conflicts, is particularly at risk: “Th

Dictators I have known

Image
By Susan Merrell Well…actually… I don't know any personally , but in my studies I have encountered many.   They have similar characteristics.   Their methods are eerily formulaic in their sameness.   WARNING: The people to whom they dictate rarely live 'happily ever after.' Belden Norman Namah is Deputy Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, Minister for Forestry (a handy portfolio when your personal fortune is tied up with logging), Minister for Climate Control (ditto), Acting Minister for State Enterprises and Acting Minister for Defence.   Under the circumstances, there's little wonder another commentator called him 'Belden the Ubiquitous'   (Please forgive me if he's returned any of his acting ministries to their rightful owners and I've missed it)    Namah is a Prime Ministerial 'wannabe'; an ambition he informed me of personally because he is someone with whom I'm acquainted. Late last year, he puffed out his fleshy chest and boomed:   &q
