Peter O’Neill’s Commencement Speaker Designate, Hon. HERST Minister Don Polye, Arrives Four Hours Late To Unitech Graduation

By alt-UNITECH Reporter By all reports, last Friday's 45 th  Unitech graduation was most certainly not on time. The speeches contained the usual choking dose of inspirational tok nating.  At least HERST Minister Don Polye didn’t pretend that Unitech’s graduants got a fine education. Instead he encouraged them to spew forth across the nation and creatively solve whatever problems they encountered, armed with the substandard education they acquired.  We already know what the results of THAT will be:  It already affects us all on a daily basis, we see it everywhere! The good Minister also mentioned that he couldn’t mention VC Albert Schram until the Sevua investigation completed its work.    That statement follows an old PNG political strategy:   Convince the people that the government’s doing something which gives them the breathing space to do nothing until we all forget what they were supposed to do.  With respet to investigations and inquiries, this means that the government quiet

Unitech pride must be restored

Image
The students at this premier institution are fidgety over who is going to sign their certificates and degrees. And so they should. It is the small rolled up piece of paper which they have spent many years to achieve and upon which the future will depend for most of them. So yes, who signs the paperwork is absolutely important. But are all the students concerned about this, or are many using the graduation to score further points in their determined push to get Dr Albert Schram back into the country and back as head of the institution? We are certain the government appointed committee is working hard towards resolving the Unitech issues but we feel inclined to direct their attention back to the pertinent historical points which has led to this current crisis lest it be sidetracked by pressing current issues. The events at the institute resulted from long standing problems dating back many years and those that relate to Schram and the situation that developed when he took office in Febru

NCDC is Dysfunctional

The outlook of the City of Port Moresby leaves a lot to be desired, with uncontrollable filth and waste, hazarded road systems, physical planning failures, and the growing traffic congestion amongst other obvious cases of the growing decay within the city. These are facts to which a fabled City Authority (NCDC) can certainly attest. Yes, there is waste, in the form of over 100,000 tons of trash produced annually by city residents and business houses. There are the hazarded road systems which are responsible for an estimated 200 -300 road accidents in the City in a year as a result of neglect and lack of maintenance of traffic management systems.  Proliferation of settlements and illegal structures within the City is spiking at an alarming rate of 8% each year, thanks to a very lax and ineffective regulatory enforcement function of NCDC. Traffic congestion is a nightmare and has been unprecedented for the past 4 years as a result of poor road network planning. But more troubling has bee

Prime Minister O’Neill Runs Away From Unitech

By alt-UNITECH Reporter Things are getting hot hot hot at Unitech in Lae. The breaking word from the Ministry for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology is that Prime Minister Peter O’Neill is so fearful of an embarrassing confrontation with students at Unitech that he’s broken his pledge to give the commencement address at all of PNG’s major universities. Yes, he gave the commencement address at Divine Word University but is now going to run away from Unitech Apparently the Prime Minister is worried that angry students will disrupt his commencement speech. Maybe he’s worried of meeting Chancellor Stagg’s fate and being forced to make a quick unexpected exit from the university. It’s obvious that Peter O’Neill is helping Philip Stagg get rid of Vice Chancellor Albert Schram for good.    The Prime Minister worries that the full horror and extent of mismanagement under the Misty Baloiloi regime will be uncovered if he lets the Vice Chancellor come back.  The Prime Minister do

Watching the developments of Kumul Holdings and IPBC

By K.S. Punduari Major Restructure – Only One Person will own special Share and VETO POWER over the 7.5 million people’s Resources and their State Owned Enterprises . Petromin, IPBC and other State Owned Enterprises to be merged and all powers will be transferred to 3 Kumul Holdings and Only One Person will have SPECIAL SHARE and VETO POWER to control it. The article on Sunday Chronicle about the major restructure can not be read unseen. Although the idea about the major restructure seems appealing, it may result in totalitarian control now or in the long run. And also peoples’ powers and resources concentrated into a single body to manipulate may easily give raise to a dictatorship.  It may seem like merging a large system will make it easy for only few people to control it but it could also result in inefficiency and unproductively. Who knows, the result might be a single point of failure. I know that Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has good motives behind this new restructure but we mu

Why are many Papua New Guineans a bunch of idiots?

By GEORGE There's 100k PNG citizens online. 80k citizens on Facebook. Let's double that number and estimate that there's 200k PNG people online. Compare 200k of them, to few million plus voters. Why would politicians be bothered to listen to the petition of 200k voices, claiming to be representing the few million voters? When clearly they're not. The voters have spoken by electing crooks and thieves into parliment again. They have voted to take it up their behind for another 5 years. I really doubt the politicians will be bothered to listen to this online petition when it clearly does not represent the wishes of the majority of png voters. The problem is not with our leaders, Australians, Chinese traders/triads or Interpol fugitives. The problem is within. It's ourselves. The wantok and bigman culture is killing our country. Because of wantok culture, we repeatedly choose our wantoks as leaders regardless of how bad they are for the country. Because of bigman cultur
