Secret Strategic Plan-How Peter O’Neil Intends To Win Against PNG’s Corruption Fighters

Image
By Insider This is a compilation of many conversations I have had over at least a year.   Some of the following information came from private discussions with staff working in the Prime Minister’s office.  The PM’s office does not have the PM’s most trusted allies, but those allies still talk, and some of that talk ends up hitting the ears of those inside the PM’s office, which of course include his media unit. By the way, even the PM’s legal defence talks after hours and some information came from legal sources assisting the PM’s defence. From all these conversations, I have put together an overall plan our Prime Minister seems to be using to worm his way out of all the current scandals that surround him.  He probably doesn’t much care whether everyone knows about his plan or not.   As we all know, as a people there are hardly any activists amongst us.  From the bottom to the top, nearly everyone is ignorant of what government does or how it is structured.  Most rarely see a newspa

RESPECT FOR THE DISHONOURABLE: THE WORST SICKNESS OF TODAY’S PNG SOCIETY

Image
There was a lengthy scuffle yesterday outside the Waigani court house between 2 factions of police.  Both were waiting for the emergence of mega-millions thief and Indonesian fugitive (but now PNG citizen!) Djoko Tjandra’s best friend and big money benefactor, otherwise known as Attorney General Ano Pala. Only in Papua New Guinea would police be scuffling with other police over whether or not a legally valid arrest warrant would be served.    That, in fact, was what caused the pushing match. Only in Papua New Guinea would there not be screaming daily editorials demanding that public officials adhere to the rule of law and serving of a legal warrant.   Instead, yesterday’s editorial title in the PC was the meek “Vodafone Good for Competition” while in the National it was the milder “Japan, PNG reaffirm strong ties”.    And only in Papua New Guinea will its citizens respond to this outrage against democracy – police pushing around police to keep a valid arrest warrant from being served

VAKI DEMANDS ALL FILES IMPLICATING PM.

Image
Peter O'Neill's outrigger and disgraceful Police Commissioner, Geoffrey Vaki demanded all other criminal files involving Prime Minister O'Neill. Sources close to Mr Vaki reveal this morning that Mr Vaki directed Acting ACP Crimes, Mr Peter Guinness to request Fraud Squad Director to submit all other files including the controversial K50 million payment to his closely aligned Israeli Company, LR Group to procure 2 mobile power generators. However, unwavering Director of Fraud Squad, Chief Superintendent Mathew Damaru refused to submit the files hence requested Vaki to put his directive in writing to him. Mr Vaki is understood to be apprehensive and instead continuously making verbal requests. Mr Vaki is also questioning how Fraud Squad could register fraud allegations when these allegations are supposed to be registered in other police stations like Boroko. Wow????? Indirectly, he is suggesting that Fraud Squad should be closed down. Fraud Squad had registered comp

O’NEILL INTERFERING WITH OMBUDSMAN COMMISSION

Image
Whilst the whole country was drawn to the Parakagate, the Ombudsman Commission silently moved in on Peter O’Neill in relation to the UBS loan. Inside sources confirm that O’Neill was given his 21 days right to be heard but sought an extension and was granted 14 days. His 14 days was over last week and the OC is currently considering referral of PM O’Neill to the Public Prosecutor for prosecution under the leadership code before a leadership tribunal. Mr O’Neill through Isaac Lupari (the Master Strategist) tried to undermine the OC Investigations by using one junior legal officer at OC by the name Howard Maliso who is also from Mr Lupari’s place.Maliso wanted to destroy the file but the OC officials caught wind of his intentions and quickly hid the files. Now it is imminent that OC would be referring PM O’Neill in the coming days. To avoid all of these, Prime Minister O’Neill quickly caused a meeting and appointed Howard Maliso as one of the Ombudsman to take the place of late Omb

PNG University Students, Lead the Way With Greater Creativity and Persistence in Protesting For a Better PNG

Image
By J Wampar It was inspiring when I first read that UPNG students were finally waking up and getting involved.  But so many ups and downs with UPNG protests and now even the brief boycott is over.  All because the referendum of 2/3rds vote for boycott was narrowly defeated.   That shows that the majority of our students want to do something.  What is lacking is creativity in how to protest.  PNG uni students seem to have only have one trick up their sleaves.  It is boycott, boycott, boycott.   Anti-corruption activists think only of marches, marches, marches.  There is only 1 fighting tool in each of their toolboxes. This gives the impression that today in PNG the most creative and innovative strategists are actually the ones stealing public monies and escaping justice, and they are successful in their crimes because their opponents seem to be dummies who show no creativity. It does not have to be this way.  There are many good ideas on the internet on alternative strategies, but

Currency and inflation management in PNG

Image
By SOLOMON AWALI The following piece attempts to briefly shed some light on how the exchange rate and inflationary mechanisms work as some uninformed social media bloggers particularly in the Facebook are politicizing issues such as currency, international reserves and inflation management in PNG to further add "salt to the wound" when PNG is currently being wounded from the recent political turmoil: Low exchange rate is good for the agriculture sector as exports become cheaper. Imports will become expensive due to the effects of imported-inflation. However, if the domestic cost structure is low and flexible, it can absorb the imported inflation in the short-run. As most developing markets such as ours are considered inefficient due to the presence of market frictions such as high transaction, monitoring and information costs, inflation will always remain a huge developmental threat. Underlying inflation is usually compounded by large inflow of FDIs attracted largely by the
