CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF JERRY GINUA - A TRUE MELANESIAN JOURNALIST

Image
By SCOTT WAIDE Four days since  his passing, I've finally mustered the courage  to write about this great man who taught me a lot.  These words, however,  will be forever inadequate for he was greater than the descriptions in this blog post.  There is an emptiness for many of us who came after him.  It is the loss not of a journalist but of an older brother and a humble leader in his own right.    So let this piece be a celebration of  his life.  For being human  is all we can be in this life.    We can never be perfect and flawless.  We can only be as honest as we can be and as honorable  as our human will permits us to be.  It is impossible not to make mistakes.  For  the absence of mistakes rarely means  perfection. It means  stagnation in the  journey of our lives.   Somebody somewhere has had to make mistakes in order for some level of  perfection to occur.  Somebody somewhere has had to make mistakes in order to us to learn from  the lessons.    Jerr

THE PARADOX OF CHARITY AND SUSTAINED HYPOCRISY

Image
By R.S.MULAN It beggers real belief that people who are in a position to make a real difference in the lives of the scabbied, malnourished, underprivileged, unfortunate, destitute, outcastes, poverty stricken etc are instead establishing Charity organisations in the pretext of doing the same thing they are otherwise mandated to do. Their goodwill seems superficial and a sustained hypocrisy in the land of the ignorants. Nobody really knows their real intentions. O’Neill Foundation, Ipatas Foundation, Marape Foundation,,,,,, you name the rest. Aren’t these people some private citizens extending their goodwill to help humanity? I know Bill Clinton started the Clinton Foundation after he left politics. I know Bill Gates Foundation as a work of a rich philanthropist. But where do we place our mandated leaders who during the tenure of their term establish such foundations? I hope it’s seriously not for some tax evasive schemes. I hope it’s not for a public image campaign,,,,,act o

MPs GROUP LOVE

Image
Three national parliamentarians have been taken to court by the husband of a woman they all allegedly had sex with. Their case went before the Waigani Family Court last Friday and has been adjourned to this Friday for submission. The information in the Court file alleges that the first MP offered the woman K500 and the second MP K800  before having sex with her on separate occasions. The Third MP also allegedly had sex with her but on the understanding that he would marry her and reimburse K100,000.00 to her husband, which the husband paid as bride price. Last week the lawyers representing the the three MPs asked the presiding Magistrate to dismiss the entire proceedings  describing it as frivolous and an abuse of Court Process. The three MPs names have been  leaked by Court Officials and obtained by PNGBlogs and they are; Telefomin MP and 1st term MP, Solan Mirisim Kokopo MP and also a first term MP, Ereman Tobaining and  Komo Margarima MP Francis Potape .

COVERING UP CRIME AT UPNG

Image
By Justice for UPNG Student Chancellor Pokawin, Vice Chancellor Mellam, SRC Vice Presidet Aheng and other SRC officers of the University of Papua New Guinea: There is Growing Student Anger about your handling of the Bobby Yupi scandal. We put these questions put before all of you to address or ignore- 1: Why so much silence by UPNG administration about the violence carried out by disgraced SRC president Bobby Yupi and his few supporters during  what was otherwise a peaceful forum? 2: Why hasn’t Bobby Yupi been arrested and charged for organising violence on main campus during the past forum? 3: Why has UPNG administration and SRC allowed Yupi to remain as SRC president? Thousands of students witnessed the primitive violent behaviour of Mr Bobby Yupi. All main facts are undisputed by vast majority of those in witness with eyewitness testimony and photographic evidence. Bobby Yupi committed crimes under PNG law. This is not like breaking a university rule so that it

Using Government Bullshit To Create Illusions In the Public Mind: It Won’t Save PNG’s Universities, My Friends

OHE Insider All Objective External Assessments of PNG’s Universities Point To A Giant, Growing Mess When I wrote my first article on the pathetic state of PNG’s universities, I thought the university ranking data would be enough to convince readers how unprepared our universities and their graduates are to meet PNG’s challenges in the 21st century. Maybe I should have shared more of what is contained within the Garnaut & Namaliu paper “PNG Universities Review”(www.rossgarnaut.com.au/.../PNGUniversitiesReview310510v7.pdf).   For example: [a nation] “pretending to educate children with pretend teachers trained in pretend universities and teachers colleges”. “The National High Schools which were once the main source of university students have deteriorated to the extent that standards are generally no higher, and in some cases lower, than the provincial secondary schools.”       “many members of staff draw full salaries but participate in teaching only to the extent that i

PRESS RELEASE

Judge Mark Sevua Rtd On Tuesday morning, 22 July 2014; NCDC Officials with the assistance of armed Police, Paga Hill Development Company and Curtain Bros demolished the SDA Church located at Paga Point together with the shelters of the Settlers on the Reclaimed Land below Paga Hill at Paga Point. The demolition and destruction of the Church and the Settlers' shelters were carried out without any consideration of human dignity and the interest and welfare of the affected citizens. This is a blatant violation of the Constitution!! !!!! It is quite amazing that a person of the calibre of Powes Parkop, the NCD Governor, who used to be describe himself as a champion of "Human Rights" could authorise his employees and henchmen to destroy the Church and the Settlers' life with the use of armed police, without any human consideration at all. I only wish that the three World War 2 bombs had exploded that day and destroy all those involved in the destruction of this area

How did I come to believe that James Marape was dishonourable (Along with Powes Parkop, John Hickey, Carol Kidu and even Gary Juffa?)

Licensed PNG PollieWatcher Depressed over the news that bail-free Paul Paraka is already out of jail and back to his old tricks of buying the PNG legal system, I was hit broadside again by yesterday’s news that James Marape got an interim injunction from the Supreme Court making him immune from arrest until the current appeal he has before the courts is dealt with.  How easily PNG’s wheels of justice are corrupted!  If you ask for my opinion, I reckon that James Marape is one of the most Dishounourable of the Dishonourable Gang of 111, a foul smelling slimebucket if there ever was one.   How did I reach that conclusion?   By watching how he operates and how he responds to critical comments about his actions.  Marape isn’t the first PNG pollie who removed their shoes, dipped their feet into social media water, and were immediately shocked by the electrified discussion!  I feel privileged to be one of probably thousands who witnessed the unveiling of the real James Marape on the i
