2017 ELECTION IS THE MOST CRUCIAL FOR PNG CONSIDER THIS AND DECIDE

Image
by MEAGHER TAYLOR This coming 2017, National General Election is most significant and crucial for the nation P apua New Guinea, and for every provinces, including my beloved Gulf Province with its current LNG issues. We have witnessed well over 5 years of turbulence, instabilities, corruptions, and undue manipulations of individuals, and reputable organisations, by current government of Peter O’Steal. The extent of the damages done by this grand coalition government to methodically destabilised the legal functions, rule of laws, procedures, processes and control structures is beyond comprehension. PNC and the ruling alliance has destroyed the independence and trust of custodian institutions designed to uphold the constitution, safe guard, and protect the nation. These acts of control by egotistic avaricious Prime Minister and his cohorts are mere deeds of criminalities to avoid incarceration. The principles and visions on which this nation was built upon by our fore-father ma

AN OPEN LETTER TO PAUL PARAKA

Image
by GARY YAMKA KIAP Dear Mr. Paraka: The April 7, 2017 issue of the Post Courier reported how you announced with much fanfare before thousands of Papua New Guineans your intention to contest for member of Parliament as the leader of GRUF (Grass Roots United Front).  You were rather gruff in the assertions you made. You stated that if elected you would pass legislation to the effect that “all open members and governors will never come to the city of Port Moresby”, with the only exception being during sessions of Parliament. You also said that you would “monitor the movements” of Members of Parliament to ensure that they are spending time in their districts. It is a waste of tax payer resources to have numerous government spies shadowing the movements of MPs 24/7.  Or was it you plan to have electronic devices attached to the ankles of each MP to trace their every step?  It sounds like a high level of government surveillance as promoted in George Orwell’s book 1984. You have f

PRIME MINISTER SHOULD CHECK FACTS AND CLEAN HIS OWN BACKYARD

Image
Former Prime Minister Sir Mekere Morauta said today he was disappointed that the Prime Minister continues to indulge in personal attacks rather than focus on issues and policies that could rescue the nation from the economic and financial chaos he has created. “Personal attack, especially when it consists of falsehoods and fantasy, is not a substitute for substantive and constructive public discourse,” he said. “I repeat my suggestion to the Prime Minister – that he focus on the things that matter, such as repairing the economy and government finances, refinancing the health and education systems after the massive cuts he has imposed, eradicating corruption, improving the quality of services, rebuilding the institutions of state that he has abused, respecting the law, following proper systems and processes of Government. “These are the critical issues after five years of his government. The people of Papua New Guinea deserve to be treated with respect by being provided with po

A DESPERATE TURNBULL STANDS BY A WEAK DESPOT

Image
by PETER J RICKETS April is proving to be the most disastrous month in the history of Australia’s relationship with Papua New Guinea, with yet another crisis in Malcolm Turnbull’s concentration camp on Manus Island, to the north of the PNG mainland. At a time when the West is struggling to win the hearts and minds of Papua New Guinea in the face of a concerted Chinese diplomatic effort to do the same, Manus has once again blown up in Australia’s face. This week’s riot during which PNG Defence Force personnel fired approximately 100 rounds from military weapons into the refugee compound has created even more animosity towards Turnbull’s Australia. The compound is supposed to be officially closed, but still houses hundreds of refugees, with Turnbull and his Immigration Minister washing their hands of any responsibility for it and its occupants. Infuriated by the continuing Turnbull-Dutton deceptions and their attempts to slither away from Australia’s responsibilities, Papua New Gui

Better Kandep Beyond 2017

Image
by FASA GIMA STANLEY DAVID Polye as a veteran politician, needs to step aside from active politic to maintain his personal and family integrity. I expect some opposition and negative comments on this post by some fake and real conservative minded people by taking the truth as political gimmick. But as a citizen of Kandep I have to speak out the truth. As a saying goes "The triumph of evil is fo r the good man to keep silent and do nothing". When Don Polye was elected to parliament in 2002 to represent the very humble but yet strong people of Kandep, all tribes and clans of Kandep valley came to a stand still to salute his victory. Polye was seen as a savior of the 21st century. All hopes and dreams were casted on him because he was a well educated person who won the Kandep seat. Though he was a first timer to parliament, he was given works, transport and civil aviation minister (other ministerial portfolios added in the same term later). That particular ministerial p

THE BETRAYAL

by MATHEW THEOL A prominent Lawyer from Pangia in Wiru has raised his hand up for the Ialibu Pangia seat currently held by the Chief Executive Officer of PNG. Hon. Peter O'Neil and Prime Minister. The Lawyer has featured in the Post Courier today on page 9 is Mr. Stanley Liria who is a very close friend and associate to the Governor William Powi. The governor has been cheating the Prime Minister all along for the final blessing of PNC to endorse him for the Regional Seat befor e the 11 hour for the Candidate Challenging the Prime Minster who is endorsed by the Governor William Powi pops up into the scene after the formalities had been cemented. Looking back to the association of Governor- Wiliam Powi and Stanley Liria are good buddies both on the personal and business front and their relationship has further extended to politics to unseat the Prime Minister from his Ialibu Pangia seat which he held for three consecutive terms. It is now becoming very clear on one of h

Brian Pebo was a former magistrate in Mendi before he was appointed as the provincial administrator of Southern Highlands but was suspended after was involved in stealing and mismanaging monies. He is related to Peter O'Neill. PNGSDP willing to help finance LNG landowner equity

Image
MEDIA RELEASE The chairman of PNG Sustainable Development Program Ltd, Sir Mekere Morauta, said today the company is willing to help provide debt finance to enable wellhead and facilities landowners buy equity in the PNG LNG Project. He said PNGSDP is happy to participate as the PNG-based member of a consortium of overseas financiers to provide a facility totaling K725 million (US$230 million) to allow the landowners to pay the State for their 4.27 per cent interest that was agreed under the Umbrella Benefit Sharing Agreement (UBSA) reached in 2009 between the Somare Government and the landowners. The wellhead and facilities landowners included in the equity holding cover groups within the PNG LNG project footprint from Western, Hela, Southern Highlands, Gulf and Central Provinces. PNGSDP was set up to hold shares in Ok Tedi Mining Ltd for the benefit of the people of Western Province and Papua New Guinea. AN INSIGHT INTO OUR BUDGET

Image
by  M.V LASIA PNG has recently made the headlines across the globe for being in a financial debt crisis and struggling to pay its debts and expenses. It is no secret the O'Neill Government has had cash-flow crisis and only managing to keep its head above water. What little tax income it earns each month is being used to ensure public servants are paid every fortnight and any difference is directed to propping up its free education policy and partly pay for its inflated contracts. Meanwhile Peter O'Neill claims the country's financial crisis has been caused by dramatic fall in world commodity prices placing a strain on economies around the world. So is Peter O'Neill telling the truth? Short answer is No.  The PNG Government funds its operations, development projects and services its debt obligations through the collection of taxes and overseas grants (donor funding). Tax collection or revenue is categorized into three main parts. 1) Tax on Income and Profit

This issue if true will soon be another international embarrassment for PNG Government.

Speech at Independent Team Dinner by Rt Hon Sir Mekere Morauta, KCMG

Image
I welcome you all and thank you profoundly for your donation of time and money to help me and other successful Independent MPs to join forces with like-minded political parties to form an honest government. None of the money will be used to fund my own campaign. Tonight’s gathering is not to raise millions of Kina, like other parties have done. Nor to entertain you with stars flown from Ireland or other continents. The tables and seats are priced at a level that working people and small businesses might afford. My intention tonight is to set an agenda for a national conversation. The time for whispering, for speculating, for telling stories, and for fear, is over. I ask every concerned Papua New Guinean to think and openly talk about our future. The character of Papua New Guinea has changed profoundly in the last 5 years. The Papua New Guinea that Michael Somare, Julius Chan, Paias Wingti, Rabbie Namaliu and I helped shape h
