A PNC candidate running for Lagaip Porgera open, Nathan Piari must be arrested and criminally charged for discharging firearms at the polling venue.
On the 08th of July, the polling was to take place at the Kanak council Ward in the Pilikambi LLG. The four clans of Kaimul tribe unanimously agreed that due to irregularities in the common roll, they wanted to share the ballot papers among the four clans.
After signed papers were distributed by the presiding officer according to their wish, a feud erupted between Mr Piari's supporter and another within the Walyage clan over their share of 561 papers.
The suspect who was armed with a pistol fired several shots at the voters injuring one elderly woman on her leg.
This angered Ambai and Kulip voters hence retaliated with stones, sticks and other missiles thrown at Piari's supporters
A stand-of developed into an horrific situation which saw few houses were burned down by an angry mob together with an old man burnt alive. As a result of the incident, more than 2 200 registered voters did not vote.
For the last 20 years that Nathan Piari has contested, he used firearms to hijack the democratic process of voting with threats, intimidation and harassment.
He used elusive means to defraud endorsement from the PNC party and after receiving party money had allegedly played porkies in Port Moresby but arrived late on Friday 07th, July before polling on Saturday 8th and applied threats in the democratic process.
The victim, Ester Dominic is currently receiving treatment at the Wabag general hospital.
Nathan Piari must be arrested forthwith together with his mob who discharged high powered weapons to extort the ballot boxes. The firearms used must be surrendered to the police.
On the 11th July, Nathan Piari admittedly paid "bel kol" compensation of K1000.00 cash, 3 coke cartons and 1 lamb flaps carton to the victim Ester Dominic and another K2000. 00, 10 cartons coke and 2 live pigs to the old man burnt alive to evade legal proceedings but he must face the full force of the law.
The elites and peace loving citizens of Kaimul tribe and entire Pilikambi demand the law to take its own course.
Meanwhile, the situation is still tense but they want the culprit to be brought into justice to prevent further development.
