Schram wants to continue to make a positive impact in PNG

Image
by ALBERT SCHRAM On 15 February, the Council of the Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNGUoT) decided to terminate my services, and gave me and my wife 7 days to ship out, and leave our residence on campus, where we have lived more than 6 years. On 19 January I was given a mere 7 days to answer the allegations, and I managed to hand in my answers though incomplete before the deadline. I returned on campus from an engagement elsewhere with my wife on 23 January, and that same day the Acting Vice Chancellor Dr. Ora Renagi wrote that I should “stay away from the office. I was also denied an extension to prepare myself, and neither was I given access to important files in the Registry and Bursary regarding this case. Council itself, however, acknowledged that the main ground for dismissal was that allegedly I did not present a certified copy of my original doctoral degree from the European University Institute. Here is a link to my thesis on the Institute’s website http://

JAMES MARAPE'S MENTOR IS PETER O'NEILL WHEN IT COMES TO HALF TRUTHS

NIUGINI OUTLOOK  UPNG especially was screaming in December that they had no money left to run the university. It was well known that months ago the PNG government had promised a sizeable amount of money to University of Papua New Guinea, PNG University of Technology and University of Goroka to pay for damages and other expenses that were incurred and not budgeted for by the universities as a result of the 2016 student boycott. The declaration that this money would be given to the universities before classes resumed again last September was supposedly told to university heads by Chief Minister Isaac Lupari in private, and in public by Peter O'Neill and other government officials. It was clearly stated in August 2016 and run on EM-TV news that the following amounts would be paid: UPNG: K12 million   Unitech: K43 million UOG: K8 million In the case of Unitech, this money was essential, being that 4 buildings were burned to the ground in late June 2016, including the all-impo

SHP STUDENTS CALL FOR AWESA TO STEP DOWN

Image
by NAIK MALCOLM I as an Imbongu Citizen Would like to call for Mr Francis Awesa to Step Down.  This is to the Works and Implementation Minister Mr Awesa, How much lives have you saved from the tribal fights in Southern Highlands Province. How much securities have you provide for those who suffered in the name of tribal fight.   Mr Awesa has saved no live in the most tribal fights in Southern Highlands Province. Yet, Mr Awesa is asking the VC to save the lives of the students during the time of trouble while the poor VC and the Unitech administration trying their very best to protect the students.   And Mr Awesa should be blamed for the death of the student because Mr Awesa as an Imbongu MP, he did not take responsibility to warn his student to return to class when the tension is very high.  Mr Awesa even failed to send police to protect the Imbongu students when he knew that his students are at risk in the campus. Yes, Mr Awesa and all the Member of the parliament and the

Poor Employability As A PNG University Graduate Is Peter O’Neill’s Legacy: PNG University World Rankings Remain As Bad As Ever

by Retired Educator, UPNG It is an open secret that the current government has been destructive of the PNG education system from top to bottom.      New planned institutions are using money that should be used to prevent the collapse of existing institutions.    PNG university graduates are suffering because government not only doesn’t seem to care about them, but is undermining their future without the students realizing it.   This article provides facts to back up these statements.   Community and High School Education Today in PNG The Free Education policy of Prime Minister O’Neill has been excellent in providing contracts to his friends and allies to build overpriced classrooms and make other, often noncritical school infrastructural improvements.   However, you will not find one library in the country that has received any significant funding to purchase books under the O’Neill government.   Today classrooms around the country are stuffed with students, but never

UNITECH SRC IS DRAGGING THEIR HEALS, WHY?

Image
by UNITECH STUDENT OBSERVER Here at Unitech Lae, the SRC is trying to twist the truth around and blaming certain groups of students for rebelling against the SRC and not following legal procedures. Let it be made clear to the world that the executive members of Unitech SRC have forced some students to take matters into their own hands. They did so because the SRC as a whole is showing complete disorganization and dragging their feet in organizing students. They are not moving forward clearly to join hands with UPNG to force the PM to step aside, be arrested and interviewed, and allow justice to take its course with no further interference on his part. The rebel students refuse to let the SRC trick us all and either stop or slow down the process to make Unitech once again a leading force to educate all people of PNG as to our future if we allow Peter O’Neill to continue blocking all attempts to prevent his arrest and investigation for numerous corruptions. The SRC should not e

The Secret Government Plan To Defeat PNG University Students

by WAIGANI INSIDER The PM and his advisors aren’t dumb.  As it became more apparent what an economic mess the government had gotten PNG into, they were clear that more people would start speaking out. When anticorruption activist Noah Anjo organized his protests last year and MP Don Polye followed, the PM knew that he had to act fast.   The word was sent out not to allow any protests that were against the PM (this did not extend to TI protests. PM believes that TI protests aren’t any threat to his power and by allowing them to continue, he can say that he supports efforts to fight corruption).    The PM effectively keeps his MPs bought off but he fears public outrage.  Last October was the first serious threat to the PM’s authority, when Noah Anjo organized a protest march from Jack Pidik park to Parliament to support a vote of no confidence on the PM.   Anjo’s request for a protest permit was also turned down.  When Anjo got a court order allowing the protest, the PM knew tha

O’Neill’s Economic recklessness Affecting Students

Image
by STEVEN ANDRE   CALL TO STUDENT PROTESTS As the country is plagued by the consequences of Prime Minister Peter O’Neill’s economic mismanagement and corruption, it has now reverberated to places that no developing country would dream of –the education sector. NO MONEY FOR TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS To start with, the Government does not have the money to drive the commencement of this academic year. As was revealed by the Office of Higher Education recently, the Higher education needs K45 million to kick-start the schooling year and there appears to be no indication on the availability of those funds. Given the shortage of cash and the competing interests, the last thing O’Neill would want is for the students to take it to the streets in protests. UNEXPECTED INCREASE IN GPA The increase in GPA benchmark for scholarships was never communicated to the students last year so as to incentivize the students to worker harder to pass it. The students had a legitimate expe

ARTHUR MABIRIA HAS COMPLETED DESTROYING UNITECH SRC

SRC PRESIDENT AND MINING ENGINEERING STUDENT RICHARD ARTHUR MABIRIA HAS COMPLETED DESTROYING UNITECH SRC REPUTATION FOR FIGHTING CORRUPTION.   MABIRIA ORGANISED STUDENT MAFIA PLANS TO TAKE CONTROL IN THIS WEEK'S OCTOBER SRC ELECTION INTRODUCTORY NOTE BY PNG BLOGS:   More than a month ago we started getting urgent messages on PNG Blogs Facebook from some final year students at Papua New Guinea University of Technology. They reported that their Student Representative Council (SRC) had transformed from an outstanding national role model for justice during the Unitech Saga to a non-transparent group lacking financial accountability and strangely opposite of last year's SRC in fighting government actions that hurt the university.  We were begged to warn others nationwide and this we did, putting up postings on PNG Blogs Facebook page.  We always believe in promoting transparency in governance.   Now we hear that the predicted corruption has taken place as detailed in the stude
