POLICE PROBE INTO PARAKA'S BANK ACCOUNTS

Image
THE National Court yesterday refused attempts by Paul Paraka Lawyers to stop Task Force Sweep from executing a search warrant to look at the law firm’s bank accounts. Principal of the law firm, Paul Paraka, appeared before the Deputy Chief Justice Gibbs Salika with a number of lawyers representing others firms whose accounts would also come under scrutiny. Their attempts to set aside the search warrants, which were issued by the DCJ last week, was refused by the court. Lawyer Nicholas Miviri from the Royal PNG Constabulary Legal Services appeared before the bench with Sam Koim, the chair of the Task Force Sweep. The court ruling now enables police to execute a search warrant on the bank accounts of law firms allegedly implicated in receiving illegal payments from the Finance Department. Mr Paraka asked the National Court to set aside the search warrants and for himself to join as a party to the proceedings initiated by the Task Force Sweep when it obtained the warrants. The court shou

Rudd-O’Neill Deal’s Principle Questionable.

By RENATA  LAVEIL Amid numerous opinions and criticism on the seemingly ad hoc Rudd-O’Neill Regional Resettlement deal, Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill put out a statement saying “the deal is not set in stone” thereby easing tension surrounding the issue. Questions though, that continually spring up is will Australia stick to the agreement in funding the processing centre and resettlement? And how long will these arrangements be for? Are we prepared to forego some sectors in the budget to assist the Australian Government, PM Kevin Rudd,   in this endeavour? So many questions that need answers, yet the Rudd-O’Neill regime continually answer with either smiles or perceived valour that the “deal is not set in stone”; what will that mean exactly twelve months from now when we have the processing centre filled to or over capacity with asylum seekers demanding asylum in Australia but forced here for processing and possibly resettlement. The Education Reform System in Papua New Guinea: Is It a Conspiracy Theory or Misconception?

Image
By LUCAS KIAP Is there any clause in the Vision 2050 providing that in fifty (50) years from now PNG shall design, engineer, manufacture and launch its first rocket into the space – the birth of PNG’s first space program?  Subsequently, the education system in the country shall be reformed to meet the standard and quality needed to produce the best brains in the country to achieve such a million years away yet achievable dream. I am only assuming because such visions could have been the key driver, driving the reform of the education system in the country - the so called Outcome Based (OB) - replacing English with PNG’s more than eight hundred languages – making PNG a many states country. If the answer is negative then, can the reformed education be another conspiracy theory to destroy the future of this country by producing more failures than successes or is it a misconception - failure by people responsible to fully understand the implications on the future of this country? The People of PNG must Rise up to face the Evil of Corruption

By LUCAS KIAP Wake up Papua New Guineans; we are not living in an imagination paradise world any more. Corruption in this country is real, is serious and is eating deeply into development funds meant for providing the basic government services which the people are praying for every day. There is no one else to blame for than the politicians we elect to serve us with honor, pride and dignity; bureaucrats that we entrust to managing government departments and institutions; public servants that are responsible for implementing government policies; and cohorts who often network with the key people in government positions – they all everyday work around the clock tirelessly - devising plans, mechanisms, policies, and platforms which can be effectively used to divert funds away from the real intentions and eventually ended up into their own pockets. There is no joke about this. This is serious. Papua New Guineans, the better country that you want to live in will not be built by anyone else t
