Marat Quits, Pruaitch, Aimo and Marus 2 Ministers and Deputy Speaker implicated in BSP Robbery still in NEC.

JUSTICE Minister and Attorney-General Dr Allan Marat said yesterday he was quitting after he was bluntly told to leave the government caucus meeting in Parliament and resign as a minister.
Marat confirmed in an interview yesterday that the prime minister “was not happy” with him and “asked” him to leave the meeting and to “resign by tonight”. What about Francis Marus Deputy Speaker, Patrick Pruaitch Finance Minister and Tony Aimo CIS Minister who stole K300,000.00 from BSP after supporting high profile criminal William Kapris.

We have a very stubborn Prime Minister who turns a blind eye on people from his own area, his own MPs and Ministers in Government and goes out to attack a honest open MP who is not afraid to fight against graft and illegal practices in the high places. The government caucus meeting took place in the B-3 conference room in Parliament at about 1pm, just before Parliament sat at 2pm.

The caucus meeting was to discuss the morning’s protest march against the Maladina amendments and other businesses to go before Parliament.
This meeting took place after an urgent NEC meeting in the morning which Marat did not attend. Marat had gone into the afternoon’s caucus meeting and had taken his seat when the prime minister came into the conference room and asked him to leave and to resign as a minister from cabinet.

The PM’s anger was apparently over Marat’s public outburst in the media over the LNG project, the Ramu nickel project and the controversial Maladina amendment bill. “Yes, I will resign, as the prime minister of this country had asked me to do,” Marat said when contacted yesterday.
“The prime minister wants me to resign, so I will do just that. “He is the prime minister and those are his orders; they are also his prerogative as the prime minister. “I respect him as the prime minister; I will write my resignation letter tonight (last night) and hand it over to him, first thing tomorrow (today) morning.”

The attorney-general made headlines in recent weeks, expressing strong views against the Ramu nickel project, the Maladina amendments and the LNG project giving little opportunity to local businesses and PNG workers. He has also not explained publicly why he decided to settle a K15.5 million claim by businessman Peter Yama, when the prime minister and cabinet’s direction was to fight the claim in court.

Relating to the Maladina amendments, Dr Marat said he met Esa’ala MP Moses Maladina just prior to the government caucus meeting and explained to him that he was misreported in the Post-Courier’s front-page article last Friday, headlined: ‘Maladina is lying – Marat’.
He accused the newspaper of “misreporting” an interview he held over the phone with a reporter. Dr Marat is the leader of the Melanesian Liberal Party, whose other member is MP for Gazelle Malakai Tabar. He did not say whether he will remain in government, or move to the opposition.
