Jeffery Nape should be next Prime Minister

Next Prime Minister??
Mr Nape, whilst he is my hero, should for all intents and purposes be declared clinically schizophrenic. I don't even think he knows what he's going to do next, but it will be interesting I'm fairly certain of that. Sure he's made some dubious calls in favour of the now-deposed Somare/Abal govt.

And whilst Belden and company made noise about blatantly disregarding the Constitution etc etc, legal redress was always available to them to challenge the validity but they declined to so is there a degree of hypocrisy from the now opposition that Mr "No Idea" Nape has woke up one day and decided that there is a vacancy so we can go straight to court? Any layman/woman that clearly can see when looking at Section 142 that Peter O'Neill and company cannot stand on any leg and rely on it to validate his election as PM, and it smacks of smugness and arrogance that the new PM or new AG has not come out to the media and stated unequivocally that everything was carried out in accordance with the constitution, and the election is legitimate.

Now whilst the argument can be put forth that the previous govt used their numerical strength to bulldoze legislation and parliamentary procedures etc is all in the past now, and the people that matter- the people of PNG, for whom these gentlemen (i use the term "gentlemen" loosely) were voted into office, need to know that the rule of law is supreme and that proper procedures have been followed. Now I'm sure that Peter O'Neill  and his crew are working overtime in trying to find a legal technicality that will see them remain in power for the next 9 months but I'm fairly certain the Supreme Court will invalidate the whole thing.

Until that happens though, there is a presumption of legitimacy in the events that occurred and until such time as the court rules otherwise O'Neill is our PM. To add another twist to this political circus, word on the ground is that the Grand Chief will be back in PNG within the next couple of weeks. Now won't that just put another spanner in the works! He'll turn up and ask just when the vacancy in the office of PM was legally declared, and provided the amazing Mr Nape is lucid, he will say he woke up one day and decided that the office of PM was vacant. Sir Michael will ask, and under what law did you decide to declare this Jeffrey? Umm...aahh...sori boss. Imbecile.

Whilst the Somare led govt was rocked with a number of scandals and seemed to be aided and abetted fully by Mr Nape in allegedly circumventing parliamentary procedures and constitutional requirements, that does not give the right for Messrs Namah and Co. to clearly disregard the requirements of the constitution in electing the PM, using orchestrated tactics and NA instability to lure (flaky) but disgruntled MP's across the floor. A well played coup nonetheless.

We will see what the courts say, and don't people find it interesting that the country's most senior and respected politicians like Sir J, Sir Mek, Bart etc are standing in the background staying silent? Sir J gave a wishy washy statement that Abal & Company are just getting one back for the 9 years that numerical strength in govt. reigned supreme. Excuse me Sir J, were you not one of the country's founding pillars? Did you quote any law? You and Sir Mek know the constitution, you are former Prime Minister's, but yet are just standing quietly in the background behind these young, arrogant political upstarts that think that the constitution can be used as their doormat.

Well done you two, I applaud you for your political wisdom and guidance and complicit acquiescence in the fundamental breach of the supreme law which you swore to uphold as Prime Minister's of this country. But I digress, its no use agitating as we have a PM and cabinet until the courts say otherwise and it will be interesting and perhaps comical to see what happens, especially with regard to our political genius speaker Mr Jeffrey Nape. Jeffrey will go down in our short history as one of our most intriguing and mercurial politicians, and I reckon he should be our next PM!

  1. The above commentary had a hand in Somare's unceremonious termination. Stupidly calculated.
