Actions by O'Namah unconstitutional

The action of the O’Neil/ Namah Government is not legitimate. To use Section 105 of the Constitution which is not about deferral is outright abuse of our Constitution. There are specific provisions on deferral under Section 246 which provides for deferral under a State of Emergency and in such a case it can only be in 2 month time frames with report back to Parliament after each 2 months (Section 239 (3)).

If the rolls and the security issues warrant a State of Emergency (which I do not agree with) then it could be implemented in that way. If the Electoral Commissioner reported that more time was needed for the rolls then that also would be acceptable (but two months of intensive work would solve the roll problems that are common every election).

However, it turns out that the so-called report to Parliament today did not come from the Electoral Commissioner's Office. Whose report was it? It was yet another lie which was presented as if it had come from the Electoral Commissioner. (I was quite "confused" as I said on the Floor because only three days earlier I had heard the Electoral Commissioner, the Defence Commander, and the Police Commissioner (3 senior long-serving public servants) tell the Australian Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop that they were ready to proceed with the elections).

The last week has been a black week in PNG's history that we will live to regret. With the Judical Conduct Act implemented (after the lie that implementation would be deferred) resulting in 2 senior judges being referred to Tribunals by Parliament; and now the deferral of elections for 6 months (after the lie that the elections would not be deferred); one wonders what will come next.

What more will they do in the determination of a few to "test the Constitution". Will they eventually attempt to suspend the Constitution? Namah has repeatedly said that not all countries have a Constitution and ours was written by foreigners? Where are they leading this nation?

The attempted military coup in 1997 failed and Sir Michael Somare felt pity for the young soldiers and released and pardoned them under the Power of Mercy provision (Let us not forget that neither Prime Minster Skate nor Prime Minister Morauta used the provision to help the soldiers between 1997 and 2002). The military coup of 1997 failed but the political coup of 2011 and the progressive attack on the Constitution (the glue that has held this Nation together) has been insidiously successful so far. Where are they leading this nation?

There is a limit to the tolerance of the people of PNG and I think we are getting very close to that limit. But how it will evolve is hard to predict - we are a very fractured society of over 800 tribes who have been held together by the Constitution. The events since August 2 last year have completely undermined our Constitution and we are told that we must "test" our Constitution. Without the Constitution as supreme we are in danger of becoming a dictatorship or disintegrating into anarchy ruled by warlords. Where are they leading this nation?

CAROL KIDU MP
LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION

Comments

  1. Lady Kidu is right. O'Namah lies are from evil. Lust for power was reason for Lucifer starting revolt in heaven that saw him and one third angels ie his cohorts being thrown down to earth where they roam destroying temples of God in humans. Can someone tell us what happen in NA Party and why those who were there some for 9 years suddenly have turned on NA Psrty and it's leadership? Now you tell us where is evil in Parliament. Well done Lady Kidu. We need urgent Supreme Court Reference and a stay on that self-serving motion of O'Namah!!!

  2. And at the Garden of Eden, Satan tempted Eve first, and upon being satisfied of her lust, she offered the fruit from the forbidden tree to her spouse Adam. They realized their sins but did not admit when God walked and called them. They chose to shift the blame. Are we also seeing these signs with O'Namah group? Yap, bingo they can't hide no more!

  3. So I guess it would be ok if the following happened - Only 2 Million voters would have voted if we went to d polls in April 27, rolls for d highlands and d momase regions were never updated. D electoral commission has continued to mislead PNGs about d facts, many voters would have been turned away at d polls due to no name. The elections were rigged to bring Somare back and to break Oniells power base in d highlands, legally d electoral commissioners office has been vacant for d last three years with d full knowledge of d Somare Govt.

  5. The solution is not in extending term of parliament as Lady Kidu says. You seem to suggest that it is okay for evil in O'Namah group to manifest itself in lies, deceits, arrogance, ego and of course greed and hunger for power. You tell us where were the bigger number in O'Namah group before the revolt started? Why did not they raise the issue of Electoral Roll update? Why did not they discipline the Electoral Commission which is what O'Namah Group intends to do any way? Only scatter brains would support illogical reasoning and action by power hungry leaders in the O'Namah Group. And yap, they are going feral with stolen power. O'Neill in truth does not have support in the Highlands. The MPs who are following him like flies are only there for the stench there, So come off that lame excuse. We want our election held on time!

  6. O'Neill has made his stance clear that Waka Goi had no Electoral Commission recommendation. Waka Goi had no NEC clearance to make statement to Parliament on deferral of election. And he is summoning innocent Electoral Commissioner to appear before his cabinet on Easter Monday show him light. Why can't he discipline Waka Goi, Belden Namah and others. K60 million shortfall falls squarely on the laps of O'Neill as Finance Minister. Power blinds O'Neill in case you think PNG is blind like your blind power hungry leaders in your camp!!!

  7. O'Neil and Namah cannot hide anymore. O'Neil is Namah's puppet, he (Namah) is da one with the dirty money, everybody else is just dancing to his music .

Come on PNG wake up, Namah is a selfish, self centered arrogant idiot who is so full of himself. He denies being gay, but hey you only have to open your eyes wider to see the true him!

He is a dictator, so rotten that he does not care. He is an animal.&@@!

  8. Seems Peter O'neill is not in control of his cabinet, especially his 2nd in command. He always says one thing and his deputy the other. Belden Namah knows he will lose the coming election and so he fought to defer the election so he will have time to fill up his pocket. Wake up Peter and discipline your deputy. All your like minded brothers are in the Somare camp. Yu yet sawe.
