PAPUA NEW GUINEA PARTICIPATES IN ARBITRARY DETENTION

By Graham Tenaen Robinson

Papua New Guinea is now seen amongst the international community as practicing Arbitrary Detention prohibited by the United Nations Division for Human Rights. Under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights under Article 9 reads;

“NO ONE SHALL BE SUBJECTED TO ARBITRARY ARREST, DETENTION AND EXILE”

Papua New Guinea in its bid to participate under bilateral ties with Australia in providing our land to be used for their offshore processing centre is now seen to have breached article 9 under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights under the UN Convention.

United Nations and its member states have not commented to date, whilst we conduct our business pertaining to Australia's immigration policy on offshore processing.

As a matter of human participation recognized by our membership symbolizing our stand supporting the preservation to freedom of speech, justice and peace we seem to have coherently broken NEARLY ALL articles listed under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The offshore processing center was the only available option the Australian government sought to use as a deterrent to the booming human smuggling industry within South East Asia.

And despite our bilateral obligation to big brother Australia, it is clearly a matter of the courts to decide the legality of the Asylum Processing Centre labelled a scheme by the Opposition.

There is a daily occurrence of suicidal attempts by Iraqi detainees confirmed over the last few days, the continuing hunger strike reports within the parameters of asylum processing centre. The strike apparently coincides with five persons sharing a tent over 5 days, no air conditioning in dongers, withholding one's right to communication, a treatment given to international war prisoners seems apparent Papua New Guinea stands an example of. The most demeaning act of mankind is seen through our participation United Nations MUST condemn immediately.

Yet the questions on humanitarian grounds to ask is obvious no one seem to care much over;

Have we enemies amongst the lot brought into the country by Australia. NO !

Have we any grudge against those we now call Asylum however let alone be treated and brandished unwanted? NO !

Did we see how evil we would participate in breaking our agreement as a member state under the UN convention with our participation in this exercise? NO !

Then question that must certainly be asked is why support in the first place.

United Nations Declaration of Human Rights.
