NAMAH CALLS FOR PUBLIC DISSENT IF PM DOES NOT RESIGN FROM OFFICE

PRESS RELEASE

I once again call on Peter O'Neill to respect the people of Papua New Guinea and resign from the Office of the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea. The longer he delays the inevitable, and the more disgraceful actions he takes in his bid to evade justice, Papua New Guinea and its citizens are losing face in the International Community. Mr. O'Neill's actions are simply disgraceful and humiliating to the people of this nation.

I call on the good citizens of Papua New Guinea to unite in the call for this one man to vacate the Office of the Prime Minister without further delay and to present himself to Police. I also call on the Public Service, Constitutional Offices and other arms and agencies of Government to stop taking any more directives and instructions from Peter O'Neill as he no longer is a fit and proper person to occupy the position of Prime Minister.

He has a clear conflict of interest. He has compromised public interest and interfered with the important institutions of State such as the Police Force.

The Opposition respected the wishes of the Police Union and has so far refrained from commenting on the unfolding events affecting very senior officers of the RPNGC.

However, I must say that the Opposition is extremely concerned with the purported sackings of senior police officers for no other reason than performing their constitutional duties. The Opposition does not consider the sackings proper and lawful.

I must make the point that, we are all equal before the law. We are all answerable to the law. Once police have taken the view that a person has come into conflict with the law, no one can and should dispute the judgment of police outside of the Court.

The Courts are the only appropriate places where we go to clear our name, not press statements and public denials. I commend Hon. Don Polye for respectfully presenting himself to police. There is no reason why O'Neill and Marape should not do likewise.

If Peter O’Neill will not resign as Prime Minister for bringing disgrace and disrepute to the Office of the Prime Minister, then I call for peaceful and orderly public dissent to O'Neill's occupation of the Office of Prime Minister.

GOD BLESS PAPUA NEW GUINEA
