UPNG 2014 ALL OVER AGAIN AT UNITECH

HISTORY OF 2014 AT UPNG COMPUS DURING THE REIGN OF BOBY YUPI AS SRC PRESIDENT IS REPLICATED AT UNITECH LAE IN 2016 UNDER ANOTHER SOUTHERN HIGHLANDER DAVID KELMA.

by LEKEM LAKI

I feel for the late young lad from Mendi whose life was brutally ended with his body mutilated in cold blood murder. This is uncalled for and life lost could have been avoided had people acted responsibly and sensibly. We would not be in this scenario counting the lost and cost.
The social media community need to comment responsibly and sensibly. Don’t use fingers to press characters on your electronic device and write anything and everything expressing your vendetta? Well, every individual has right for constitution gives the freedom of speech but again that does not leverages anyone and everyone to put pen to paper and express one’s emotions.
It is typical of human nature to response angrily on the hit of the moment but we have a duty exercise restrained and to react responsibly and sensibly. Dissect things and analyse the contentious issue like a hot potato thrown around. Anything and everything thing in life happens for a reason and it does not for nothing. There is cause and effect. The effects inevitably can have domino causation and has potentiality of nasty repercussions.
There was nothing evil in students boycotting classes and tried in vain to lead a protest march to parliament on the 8th June 2016. Should all protocols were accorded meaning, UPNG administration not calling police, police escorted students safely to parliament to observe the proceedings i
A peaceful boycott of classes organised in a civilized manner. That did not warrant the presence of police on campus. A psychopath policemen who fired live ammunition indiscriminately at unarmed students need arrested followed by others. Policemen inflicted pain, misery and caused great terror amongst the students. Students are slowly recovering from the traumatic event of June 8th 2016.
The composition of commission of inquiry (COI) must be independent and neutral people of reputable standing in the community who can maintain impartiality throughout the duration of the inquiry need get appointed. Not bunch of rogue redundant police officers, corrupt Gari Baki, Peter O’Neil’s stooge to pick and choose. Apparently Ben Turi gave the orders to shoot. There is no secret! Peter O’Neil gives order to stooge G. Baki and he in turn gives order to B. Turi and they cover each other asses very well.
Let me revert to the early incident on the campus in Lae UoT.
Southern Highlands students acted like warlords armed with weapons and charged at rest of the students causing pain, misery and terror. Whether targeted attack or was random, an Enga student was slashed with mercedes knife in that moment. It is a similar replica of a situation at UPNG back in 2014 led by Boby Yupi (SRC President – Southern Highlander). Now, under the SRC leadership of another Southern Highlander (David Kelma) at Uni-Tech, a similar scene is acted out.
Do we ever get to ask, who are these Southern Highlanders? Is this the best way to demonstrate political power by arming provincial student grouping to retain power (PM)? The cycle is being repeated first at UPNG and now Uni-Tech.
Burning down of SRC President’s residence is on purpose. Boby Yupi and his accomplice went unpunished for rowdy and riot behaviour of criminal nature demonstrated at UPNG in 2014 causing fear and terror among the students. Similar scene witnessed at Uni-Tech. Since David Kelma’s mob caused injury and terror, authorities miserably failed to apprehend the suspect.
Taking late Gramme’s life is to be understood in the context of retribution. Should authorities swiftly acted proactively, situation would have been averted. Failure in proactive action has led to disgruntled group reacted and scene of murder in my view will take precedent over the previous incident caused by David Kelma and his accomplice.
David Kelma must be held accountable and take full responsibility including Sothern Highlands and Hela politicians particularizing W. Powi and J. Marape with money bags going around inducing and luring student leadership support for their political mileage.
I highly commend Jnr Wagambi for his composure. The enormity of the situation on campus put his men under immense pressure but stood the test of the night and dispersed with tear gas. Stupid Ben Turi need to learn a lot from Jnr Wagambi.
Otherwise, this is the legacy of Peter O’Neil’s reign. Students turned on against each other and an innocent life taken because of Peter O’Neil’s making.
For critics with informed knowledge support the ruthless Prime minister and claim he’ll be there for next 20, 30 or 40 years, surely he will as far as you want him to be in your wildest dream but certainly not in PNG, mark my word.
