PNG has ‘lost control’ on illegal immigration

Government authorities say the problem is huge and complex as the illegal immigrants are entering through sea ports in the provinces where there is very little or no processing facilities. Immigration and Foreign Affairs office including Customs this week told the Post-Courier that the issue has gone out of hand because of the fact that duties have been compromised, no facilities and resources to tackle the problem and those involved have already widely established themselves and working with elite leaders and MPs in the country as partners. By FAFTI YOKOMO Hello Everyone, I would like to take this opportunity to put things right as I have been getting alot of emails and requests about this whole issue. When I posted this, my intentions were clear, I wanted to get the media to conduct their investigation as journalists. I NEVER ecpected anyone to believe my story, or even invite me into groups or to be their friends. My actions were plainly to get the truth out. I am going to tell you all little bit about myself. I am an Intel Officer with the government (for more than 12 years). I, including some of my colleges, joined the O'Neil/Namah faction to assist them due to the lucrative pay package. I assisted the faction in its deals, some which involved bribery and corruption. I soon realised that it was not what I signed up for..., to be the eyes and ears for the politicians and provide security and advice where necessary. Therefore, a couple of my colleges and myself requested transfer back to ou

Borderless instability in New Guinea

By: JACOB ZENN The year 2011 was a tumultuous one for the island of New Guinea, the world's second-largest and perhaps most politically divided island. Papua New Guinea (PNG), the independent country on the island's eastern half, suffered from a four-month political standoff that was at least temporarily resolved in late December. On the island's western half, consisting of two Indonesian provinces, what started out as a strike over wages at the Grasberg mine spiraled into four months of protests which fueled a revival of the Papuan independence movement. While relative peace had been restored on both sides of the island by year's end, lasting stability will depend on a number of mutable factors in the year ahead. The key figure in the PNG political crisis - and also the key figure in the country since its independence - is Sir Michael

TNI scrambled jets but stopped short of forcing Jet to land after learning Deputy PM was onboard. We would like to bring to light a questionable activity within the new PNG Immigration and Citizenship Authority or PNGICS. This activity happens during the night, while most of you are settling down trying to go to bed or maybe out having fun, dangerous people are penetrating our borders and using PNG as a safe-haven. The one of here is an Indonesian fugitive businessman, namely Mr. Joko Soegiarto Tjandra. He enters PNG on a private/chartered jet late in the night when all commercial flight for Air Niugini, Airlines PNG, Virgin Blue and Qantas has closed and seized for the night. Some of you reading this may know Joko or Djoko. He is wanted by the Indonesian Supreme Court and Interpol (International Police) for Fraud

More questions for PIH

By Peter Korimbo  Pacific International Hospital (PIH) was registered under suspicious cirmcumstances. When the issue of registration came up with the Medical Board of PNG (chairman late Dr Pangatana), there were many issues the PIH had to fulfil before a licence was granted to operate as a hospital. The Health Minister at the time used his ministerial power to order the Medical Board of PNG to grant the licence. It was common knowledge at the time that the particular minister a “very close” friend of the principal owner of PIH. The ownership issue of PIH has to be revealed so the PNG people know. MARRIAGE BREAKING UP? Belden Namah is calling "Prime Minister" Peter O'Neil to resign over the Indonesian 'falcon mishap' due to apparent differences on the matter. A very serious call by Namah and even putting his name up to be alternate PM come Parliament sitting next week. The O'Neil/Namah led faction is now showing signs of dis-contentment in leadership styles especially when the current political 'impasse' has yet to be resolved in the proper manner. The Unions will closely monitor developments with the PNG Power Energy workers Union extremely concerned about politics creeping into the Organisation. Clearly the coalition can't go on when O'Neill continues to undermine the authority of his deputy by reversing his decisions.(The latest one over Namah's threat to expel Indonesian diplomats if there is no satisfactory explanation and apology for the mid-flight incident on November 29.) UNPRECEDENTED LAWLESSNESS BY ONEILL-NAMAH REGIME.

Image
The unprecedented level of lawlessness by the O'Neill-Namah regime is threatening the very fabric of our society and the constituent institutions that go to make up the nation state of Papua New Guinea. This has gone beyond a joke or any semblance of some notion of democratic regime change. What we are witnessing played out before our eyes is the hi-jacking of democracy, the hijacking of the rule of law, the hi-jacking of the social contract that we as a people entered into at Independence to become a nation under one Constitution. That social contract is being abrogated by the O'Neill-Namah regime in the perpetual breach of the Constitution, and their total disregard for the rule of law, and compromising the law enforcement agencies, and abusing the institution of Parliament. Elsewhere, I have already commented on the devolution and exercise of the peoples power. That the only Constitutionally mandated government was the Somare led NA Coalition government; being

THE Indonesian military scrambled two aircraft to track Air Niugini’s Falcon jet last November as it was returning home from Malaysia with VIPs on board, including Deputy Prime Minister Belden Namah, it has been disclosed. The P2ANW flight was in Indonesian airspace when the drama unfolded on Nov 29, unbeknown to Namah and his entourage. He had demanded an explanation from the Indonesian Embassy in Port Moresby. However, his request for a meeting with the Indonesian Ambassador was not granted. According to protocol, it was required that the Foreign Affairs secretary would summon the ambassador and present a protest note on behalf of the PNG government to the Indonesian government. Details on the incident surfaced in PNG in recent days when an Indonesian journalist started asking questions through PNG sources about the government’s reaction to it. It was known that the Falcon F900 had left Subang, Malaysia, on Nov 29 for Port Moresby and was flying through the approved route whi
