The Chief Justice was not allowed into the court house this morning by the police.
The Acting CJ was allowed in. He is now in control of the courts. It is likely
that the call for the relevant parties to appear on Tuesday will be rescinded.
The
political fiasco involving the three arms of the government is
deepening. Armed policemen today prevented Chief Justice, Sir Salamo
Injia, access to the court house at Waigani as he was going to work. In a
statement, Sir Salamo says the policemen, led by Deputy Commissioner
Simon Kauba disregarded a copy of the Supreme Court order which stayed
the suspension of Sir Salamo.
A three-men bench, headed by Sir Salamo
himself late yesterday, stayed an earlier Cabinet decision to suspend
Sir Salamo for alleged misconduct in office. The stay order will be in
place pending contempt charges to be laid against Peter O'Neill, his NEC
and certain lawyers. But Deputy Prime Minister, Belden Namah, justified
the police action saying Sir Salamo had compromised the Chief Justice
position by heading the three men bench when he should not.
Sir Salamo
on the other hand says he was not notified of any allegations against
him nor was he given any opportunity to be heard before Cabinet decided
to suspend him and will continue to perform his duties. This is the
second time the government has tried to suspend the Chief Justice
Sir
Salamoa Injia has stated in a Press Release that he will continue to
perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice until such time as
a court of competent jurisdiction discharges the court order.
With
regards to the suspension, Sir Salamoa says he was not notified of any
allegations of misconduct against him and not given an opportunity to be
heard before the decision to suspend him from office was made by the
NEC.
After the announcing the suspension yesterday during a Press
Conference, Parliament elects PM, Peter ONIEL, says Deputy Chief
Justice, Gibbs Salika is now the Acting CJ. Meanwhile, Deputy PM, under
the ONIEL/NAMA Government, Belden NAMAH this morning told media
representatives that a Deputy Chief Justice will be appointed soon.
It was long time coming. Police allegation was the basis. It was why police did not arrest Namah and Marat in the first place in November 2011. Law will reign.
ReplyDeletePeter O'Neill is a tyrant. All evidence are pointing in that direction. The Prime Minister and National Executive Council (Amendment) Act 2011 makes him a dictator hiding behind privileges of Parliament. It is courageous of the Chief Justice to deal with the tyranny of this tyrannical leader Peter O'Neill. PNG will see law triumphs.
ReplyDeleteI deplore the actions of a/deputy police comm, simon kauba n his gun totting boys in blue cam. Am sorry 2 say, but the police force is now being dictated by the so called o'neill govt, n it has now lost it's professional image.. The boys in blue look like clowns..
ReplyDeleteNo leader with people at heart should support Peter O'Neill any more. Grand Chief Somare is right. O'Neill - Namah regime is showing madness with power. O'Neill and Namah are like cunning serpent in the Garden of Eden. Eve and Adam in leaders of Opposition Mekere and Bart ate the forbidden fruit. Truth is evil was moved to the Opposition. Peter O'Neill is a result of a coordinated plot to remove Somares from PNG politics. Truth and justice will be brought to the fore.
ReplyDeleteHow much truth is in the allegations against the CJ. If it is enough, the NEC decision to suspend is for the better. The CJ will only be defending his stupidity if he remains. Come on PNG, let Salamo try to get out of this without political aid and will see who is telling the truth. Oneill/Namah maybe right, but if Salamo is right, then the constitution wins and Oneill/Namah should be dealt with. Only the outcome of CJ's case will determine the future of PNG politics...maybe!!
ReplyDeletePowerful Crooks in Power:-
ReplyDelete1. Jeffrey Nape - former convict of Barawagi, 4 forgery and current millionaire 'Play-Maker' n Master White Colar n Fraudster...
2. Peter O'Neill - Implicated in missing millions in NPF and POSF Housing Scheme funds...
3. Belden Namah - convicted for Mutiny, dirty hand in illegal logging contracts and money laundring. Compulsive pokies gambler who bets K500 on 10 machines...
That's very true and scary.. especially when Belden is suffering from Dictatorialphonic Syndrome..
DeleteDictators will be brought down like those in the Middle East.
ReplyDeleteGC Somare, Pruaitch,Bonga, arthur,Aimo, etc are all thiefs as well. Countrymen, wake up from your dreams they are all thiefs, so stop naming only the ones you r opposing. LEST WE FORGET.
ReplyDeleteO'Neill stole power. Respect leaders Who uphold constitution. Not O'Neill. Truth is he is a law breaker. How can we support O'Neill? We are principled people unlike O'Neill and his supporters. Read 1Timothy 2:4-9.
ReplyDeleteThink again. They are all law breakers and they all failed the constitution. Stop taking sides with biblical quotes for those that steal, its a SIN.
ReplyDeleteO'Neill and his supporters are scared of biblical truths. Money is the reason for O'Neill and his supporters. Money lust made O'Neill steal power. People know it and will kick him out of people's parliament.
ReplyDeleteAt least O'Neill is spending the money where its supposed to be spent.
