LET GOVERNMENT CLOSE UNITECH FOR ONE YEAR AND BRING IT UP TO MINIMUM STANDARDS
When we heard we got accepted to Unitech I guess most of us would think that this was great news and that we would be coming to a proper university. When I was young I lived in Brisbane where my father was attended QUT. He used to take me around the place often. I remember the libraries and what was inside the buildings. QUT is a good university but not the best so it is not like I am expecting impossible standards at Unitech if I expected something remotely similar at Unitech when I got here.
Then I came and was shocked at how rundown everything was. Thanks to my pops he bought me a laptop but most students don’t have one and they never get enough time at the few computers available to really learn computer use properly. The library sucks how else can I put it. Library staff are not dedicated enough to prevent stealing and looks like they have bought hardly any new books for over 2000 students in many years.
The Acting VC Dr Pumwa told us how good this university was but I kept looking around to see what was good about it and came up empty. It looks like very little money has been invested for years.
In the few weeks we were attending classes before the boycott already I experienced one class where teacher wasn't showing up. Nobody in the department was monitoring even the other students looked at this like a holiday. I guess they don't understand that they get hurt in the end if they don't learn anything.
Almost everything about this place seems out of date. Classes are not structured so we get lots of practice learning the skills we need in our intended specialty. There is also the dorms and associated toilets they are so disgusting in some places you want to throw up. Why no maintenance for so long?
What really caused the anger was the administration demand for full school fees immediately when we arrived yet they raised the school fees only few weeks before and showed disregard for parents struggles. All the admin should be sacked for that kind of attitude!!!!!
I hope Minister Gore carried out her threat and closes down Unitech for 1 year but only if the government uses that time to stop pretending this university is good. It is terrible and they should use the year off to put things in order. Right now our education sucks here and that’s the truth. Everything is out of date so how can we graduate knowing the right skills to get a job?
Recommendation CLOSE DOWN UNITECH FOR ONE YEAR. Use that time to fill the library with new books, upgrade classrooms and labs, expand the computer facilities, make full access to internet, make living and eating tolerable with proper maintenance and food, find better teachers, etc etc etc
By the way all of you out there must understand that the reason we students must use pen names is because there is a witch hunt at Unitech to identify student leaders and others who speak out against the administration evil. These admin are the evil ones to conduct witch hunts against students who only protest because we care about our education why is that considered the wrong thing to do?
