The untouchable PM?
Virtually everything he does is a deception, from his "helping the rural poor" district support grants designed to buy the loyalty of MPs who then use the money to buy the peoples votes, to his fake foundation designed to create the illusion that Peter O'Neill actually cares about anyone but himself, to his perpetual contradictions of his own previous personal statements like: That letter doesn't even exist, I didn't even sign that letter that doesn't exist, I may have sign ed that letter but the payment was legal, blah blah blah.
How much longer must we tolerate this leader without a conscience or remorse, a man appointed to lead his country who in actuality thinks about nothing but himself and who cannot stoop low enough to manufacture false truths?
It is hard to even imagine a character of such low values and calibre as Peter O'Neill. But of course, nothing is ever Peter O'Neills fault and never will be. According to him, everyone else is to blame except for himself for anything that goes wrong. O'Neill is beyond fault, sin, blame, and error. According to Peter O'Neill!
Of course the man will now go into fast action to find any conceivable way of buying or delaying himself out of trouble just like he always does. Even if he fails at his normal shaninigans, he is already on the winning side by this referral.
By being led before a leadership tribunal instead of the normal criminal court, he is not subject to jail time or a criminal conviction since this lies beyond the authority of any Leadership Tribunal. The Leadership Tribunal could easily give him the same slap on the wrist as they did Somare by finding him guilty, then giving him a very brief suspension.
Even if Peter ONeill receives the most severe penalty that can be imposed by the Leadership Tribunal (3 years suspension), that doesn't keep him from bouncing back into circulation at the end of the penalty so he can O'Steal from the nation once more.
Worst of all, knowing our society's capacity to forgive and forget, even if Peter O'Neill gets the full penalty, the moment it is imposed you'll hear a national sigh of relief as PNG society declares, "ok, pinis nau. Maski lo toktok moa lo dispela".
The result of our collective attitude means there will be no public outcry for Peter O'Neill to face the full force of criminal court for his evil deeds, in fact, it will likely all be forgotten! He'll get to keep all his stolen money, not serve a day in prison, and 5 years from now, we'll let him pretend that nothing ever happened. We'll let his almost guaranteed effort to revise history by declaring that the ombudsman had a political axe to grand blah blah blah fill the newspapers and EM TV sound waves until most people start believing it. Once again, Peter O'Neill will deceive his way out of the punishment h e rightl y deserves.
That is our history and our corrupt leaders benefit, even prosper, from our attitude. I hope that I'm wrong about this prediction but knowing how Peter O'Neill and other corrupt leaders have handled these things in the past, I suspect that I'll be right.
