PNG Should break up into states if the Constitution is deemed useless by this regime

Image
Peter ONeill has this last week embarked upon a new theory in Papua New Guinea Constitutional law. He has unilaterally declared 'Parliament has oversight powers' over the Judiciary. That is NOT TRUE. Parliament does not have any such overriding powers as Peter ONeill declares. The Constitution does not give Parliament any such power. The Constitutional Planning Committee never gave Parliament any such power as Peter ONeill contends. What they reduced to writing ultimately in the Constitution does not give Parliament any overriding or even supervisory powers as Peter ONeill in his whistful thinking would like us to believe. This is another lie. Another of the many lies and deceptions that has been played upon the unsuspecting people  of this nation since the great steal on 2nd August 2011. Papua New Guinea: Roads to growth

Plans for a major highway upgrade deal with China and progress in transport development schemes underline Papua New Guinea’s (PNG) determination to tackle infrastructure deficits that have thus far inhibited the island’s economic growth. In March, Francis Awesa, the minister of transport, told Australian media that the government is seeking a $4.73bn-$5.67bn loan from China to fix its major economic lifeline – the Highlands highway – with some funds also to be used for other road upgrades. Awesa added that he was “confident” a deal with Beijing would be negotiated. The 800-km Highlands highway runs from the port city of Lae in the Morobe province to the highlands region, which is home to the crucial Exxon-led $15.7bn PNG liquefied natural gas (LNG) project, the Porgera gold mine and numerous coffee plantations. “Economically, it is very important for the government to look after this highway, which a lifeline for these projects and the people,” Awesa told ABC radio on March 13. “Lae is

PNG Speaker accuses leading MP of contempt

Image
IN THE latest episode in Papua New Guinea's tumultuous political impasse, the leader of the two-member opposition, Dame Carol Kidu, was yesterday accused of contempt of Parliament by the Speaker and targeted for investigation for alleged crimes that carry a hefty jail sentence. But arriving in Geelong yesterday for a conference exploring PNG's political, economic and social prospects beyond this year's scheduled national elections, Dame Carol was defiant about her questioning of how two versions of the controversial Judicial Conduct Act - which empowers the Parliament to sack judges - came to be in circulation. The duplication appeared to indicate another breakdown in the systems of proper parliamentary process, failures that were ''eating away out our democracy'', said Dame Carol, PNG's only female MP and a long-standing minister in the former Somare government. THE ILLEGAL REIGN OF THE O’NEILL NAMAH REGIME AND 2012 ELECTION DEFERRAL

Image
It is as clear as day that the "govt" of Peter O'Neill and Belden Namah has been illegal since day 1, 2nd of August 2011. When one considers and accepts this as a fact, then one can begin to objectively view each and every decision they have made to date. Ever since that fateful day, most, if not all of their decisions made have been aimed at one thing only and that is to legitimise their hold on power.  They knew GC Somare, as the legally mandated PM had every right under the constitution to remove them from office. So they went about changing laws, including the constitution to remove him from office, and disqualify him from ever becoming PM again. When they realised that even that was not enough to keep them in power and the Supreme Court was going to find them guilty of breaching the constitution to usurp power, they turned their attention on the courts and the judges.  The CJ, as the head of the Judiciary, faced the brunt of their desperation. Ode to Belden Norman Namah

By Susan Merrell (Should be sung to the tune of the first verse of  'Carbon the copycat'.   Here's a link for all those who don't remember or know the children's song.) http://www.myspace.com/music/player?sid=79796272&ac=now   Belden the DPM, The scourge of PNG, With his military might For his people he'll fight, But nothing he does comes free. (Comes free, comes free.) Belden is very spoilt, He likes to get own way, Court rulings he's lost Come at a great cost, The judiciary they will pay. (Will pay, will pay.) Belden the businessman, He cuts down all the trees, In Vanimo/Green Where the chainsaws have been, Is where he collects the fees. (The fees, the fees.) Belden the middleman, He does the business deals Palm oil's a price, But he sells it twice, From the planters the rest he steals. (He steals, he steals.) Belden the jetsetter, He likes to fly first class, On the falcon jet, Indonesians he met, Almost brought him down on his arse. (His arse, h

Somare supporters hijacked rally - Anjo

Anjo seen here with his puppet masters, O'Neill and Namah A Papua New Guinea NGO activist has accused groups loyal to the former Somare government of hijacking Tuesday’s large public rally against the deferral of elections and the Judicial Conduct law. A mass gathering of between five and ten thousand people, including University students, NGOs and union groups, converged on Sir John Guise stadium in Port Moresby to present petitions to the government. Noel Anjo of PNG’s Coalition of Civil Society Organisations says he had originally planned the rally to be on Thursday but that the plan got hijacked by groups with a political agenda. “The coalition partner NGOs were not allowed to have a look at the content of the petition and we were not even allowed to sign on the petition. The few people who signed on the petition (included) the Trade Union Congress Secretary General, the President and groups that are aligned to the former regime.” “Meanwhile, Noel Anjo says he is s

Writs to be Delayed for Three Weeks

Papua New Guinea's prime minister and electoral commissioner say the nation's election will take place as scheduled, following a massive protest in the nation's capital, Port Moresby. Thousands of protesters marched on Sir John Guise Stadium in the heart of the city's government district today, demanding the government stop interfering in the electoral process and that it roll back laws giving parliament the power to suspend judges. PNG's politicians last week voted 63 to 11 to delay the June 23 poll by six months after it was revealed the rolls for 41 electorates in the resources-rich highland region were incomplete. "(Cabinet), the parliament, does not have the power to direct the electoral commissioner," Prime Minister Peter O'Neill told the crowd. "Parliament will not interfere with the electoral commissioner." With 51 per cent of that nation's eligible voters in the highlands, issuing the writs when the rolls aren't ready would b

The Story of the Bedroom Cabinet

Image
Papua New Guineans, we have a serious problem on our hands. We have a government that wants to assume absolute power for one thing only. To enrich themselves. The Judicial Conduct Bill (JCB) was not passed to regulate the judiciary as we are led to believe. It was passed to safeguard and enrich themselves and settle personal scores. This government assumed power through a political coup in August 2. Their actions was illegal as per the SCR. They have tried every trick in the book to legitimize their rule but every time they do so, it seems another law is made. Two wrongs will never make a right, however hard you try. The current law was made to shoot several birds with one stone. These are the birds. 1. The lawyer advising the current government was Professor Nongorrs wife (Tiffany Nongorr now Tiffany Twivey). They had a nasty divorce and the lady is seeking retribution. By reliable accounts she has been the absolute government legal expert and drafted and advised on almost all the la
