Is the Current Crop of University Student Leaders Any Improvement Over Our Current Crap National Leaders?

Image
Unitech SRC President David Kelma by Year 4 Business Studies Student, Uni-tech Our country has suffered under years of mostly poor leadership because some of us vibrant young people who raise our hands and contest elections to become class leaders don’t have much idea what good leadership requires.  We’re looking for the power and prestige and don’t care about much else.   We’re to slack to investigate how leaders operated in places that show conspicuous rewards of good leadership.  Fact is that most candidates for student class captain or SRC president are seeking fame, women and hopefully free money.  Little else is of interest, not when they are class president, and not when they become an MP or Minister.  As far as what we want to do once we are elected, most of us think all we have to do is promise the voters to do whatever they want us to do, then lie as much as necessary to fool people into thinking we know what we’re doing.   Most of us young leaders are ignorant abou

Unitech Students Vote Righteousness Over Ipatas and Tabar Self Serving Intimidation Overwhelming 87% Vote In Favour Of Boycott. PAU and Divine Word Students Sit Back And Let Other Students Do All the Fighting for A Better Future for PNG. By Wilfred Dama After a worrisome delay, unitech students finally stood up with courage like the way their predecessors did in 2014 to defeat the corrupt Peter O’Neill to bring back a noncorrupt Vice Chancellor.   The final vote was over 87% to proceed with a boycott. Final tally was 2,059 supporting an immediate boycott and 296 voting against.    Thank God Amighty Unitech students have now finished their wishy washy and firmly joined UPNG and UNRE in standing up in a unified way with the government.    The fight of good against evil has gained thousands of new soldiers.   UNIVERSITY OF GOROKA STUDENTS WHERE ARE YOU?     We wonder why the UOG students, who were the heroes last year in deposing their uncaring and corrupt administration, h

Poor Employability As A PNG University Graduate Is Peter O’Neill’s Legacy: PNG University World Rankings Remain As Bad As Ever

by Retired Educator, UPNG It is an open secret that the current government has been destructive of the PNG education system from top to bottom.      New planned institutions are using money that should be used to prevent the collapse of existing institutions.    PNG university graduates are suffering because government not only doesn’t seem to care about them, but is undermining their future without the students realizing it.   This article provides facts to back up these statements.   Community and High School Education Today in PNG The Free Education policy of Prime Minister O’Neill has been excellent in providing contracts to his friends and allies to build overpriced classrooms and make other, often noncritical school infrastructural improvements.   However, you will not find one library in the country that has received any significant funding to purchase books under the O’Neill government.   Today classrooms around the country are stuffed with students, but never

3 DOWN, MORE TO GO!

Actually days ago UNRE joined the fight that UPNG and Unitech have been involved with.   We just weren’t told by the media. by KAREN WAN The biggest problem we have in PNG is that there isn’t enough news being reported.    Some of this is due to the newspapers being very selective about what they will publish.   Much of the problem is due to people not reporting the news that they eyewitness, even though nowdays with our mobile phones we can easily take photos, write a short story, and at least post it on social media. But mipela les lo wokim.  After 3 days of nonreporting the event by the mainstream media as well as students themselves, finally we are told that UNRE students went on boycott days ago.    The article in today’s THE NATIONAL newspaper reported that the reason for the boycott isn’t to pressure the PM to step down but instead, continued malpractices and maladministration at UNRE.   However, what they are boycotting for is not really much different from

HELA! O'NEILL LIED TO YOU!

by LEKEM LAKI Funeral for late Anderson Pawa Agiru on hold (4/5/16 – Post Courier) enchanted by Hela people will have little bearing. People of Hela and rest of Papua New Guinea were denied by Robert Mugabe type regime in the Pacific. Peter O’Neil reckons he is an answer to PNG’s political, economic, social and spiritual woes but little do the people know PO was an egocentric, an opportunist raging wolf in sheep’s skin. He seizes on the opportunity to squeeze everything and country virtually is taken over the country vicious character. Economically, country is placed in a precarious situation and struggling to thrive in a competitive business world. He sucked every juice out of the system leaving the people high and dry and Hela people are of no exception though Hela province hosts the multi billion Kina project. Combining with pack of wolfs have sucked all the money out of former NPF now NASFUND and the same team is in and partying on the gains of the blessed island of gold, fl

PNG University Students Will Lead The Nation If They Show Courage That The Rest Of Us Have Lost

by Damien George Why aren’t we hearing voices from Divine Word University students in the media right now?  From University of Goroka?  Even from the Vudal University of Natural Resources?   Are they quiet because it is easy for them to get jobs after they graduate?  Are they blindly impressed with Peter O’Neill’s nonstop legacy of building overpriced roads and buildings that start to crumble right after the last kickback is paid?  Do they like having a sleezemaster represent our country who has thrown away tens of millions of trying to set up a stupid new university in the middle of nowhere (Ialibu airstrip) instead of stopping the infrastructure collapse any fool can see is happening at our existing public universities?   Are UNRE students quiet because the students of the other universities did nothing to unify and help them depose of their useby date expired VC?   Are UOG students so quiet because no other uni student government stood by their side either during their vicious fig

FOOLISH JUDGEMENT COSTING STATE MUCH NEEDED MONEY

Image
by LEKEM LAKI SHORT SIGHTED WITH NO BENEFIT AND COST ANALYSIS LEADING TO FOOLISH JUDGEMENT COSTING STATE MUCH NEEDED MONEY. I write to express my disgust and disapproval on the controversial judgement by a learned judge who presided over the election petition case between Hon. Don Pomb Polye and Alfred Luke Manase. The judgement is thought provoking, illogical, unmerited and senseless decision in totality. Compare and contrast the statistics courtesy of electoral commission and do a benefit and cost analysis of the episode of recount. Does it warrant such a judgement? Not merely the timing factor but the decision that is of no great benefit to the state at the crucial time when the country is rattled with gross mismanagement of country’s economy and proliferation of massive corruption courtesy of ruthless regime of PO. According to Electoral Commissioner Gamato’s testament, he needs three quarter of a million Kina (K850, 000.00) to do the recounting. In those disputed boxes, the t

UNITECH SRC IS DRAGGING THEIR HEALS, WHY?

Image
by UNITECH STUDENT OBSERVER Here at Unitech Lae, the SRC is trying to twist the truth around and blaming certain groups of students for rebelling against the SRC and not following legal procedures. Let it be made clear to the world that the executive members of Unitech SRC have forced some students to take matters into their own hands. They did so because the SRC as a whole is showing complete disorganization and dragging their feet in organizing students. They are not moving forward clearly to join hands with UPNG to force the PM to step aside, be arrested and interviewed, and allow justice to take its course with no further interference on his part. The rebel students refuse to let the SRC trick us all and either stop or slow down the process to make Unitech once again a leading force to educate all people of PNG as to our future if we allow Peter O’Neill to continue blocking all attempts to prevent his arrest and investigation for numerous corruptions. The SRC should not e
