Image
By: Kenneth Yamu KENNETH YAMU I would like to air my consent that the University of Papua New Guinea students to respect the leadership of UPNG SRC president and complete his term. He is the leader mediated by the 5000 plus student population to represent them and not anybody else. He will always make the decision in the best interest of UPNG. I knew Mr. Yupi when he was the President of Hela Student Association last year 2013. He was the vocal student leader in the 2013 SRC committee and addressed both internal and external issues of the country logically. He is a man of integrity and can’t tolerate corrupt practice. He makes his stands to oppose corrupt practices. I supported him in SRC elections not because he my brother but he have leadership skills and integrity to serve other people’s interest. We stood together when I was the president of Southern Highlands Student Union to go against some of the decisions made by O’Niell-Dion Government Likes Manus Asylum seekers, Death

PETER O’NEILL IS NOW THE LAW UNTO HIMSELF

By ROIT S A MULAN Court have exhausted their powers to uphold the warrant, Police Have done theirs and are having difficulty effecting arrest.  Now its citizens Call.  Citizens Arise The combined reading of Constitution, the Constitutional Planning Committee’s Report, the Police Act 1998 and the Arrest Act, it is evident that with respect to the decisions about whom and how to investigate, charge and prosecute, the police are shielded from direction, control and undue influence by the Executive Government and thus have a somewhat different relationship to the Executive with respect to such matters than is the usual case for public servants in a democracy. Individual police officers are mandated with the authority to investigate, arrest, lay charge and prosecute an offender. The law does not demand that every individual case to require the approval of the Police Commissioner before an arrest is made on an individual. It defeats the tenets of the rule of law to single out on

WILL NEW INTERIM SRC PRESIDENT AHENG LEAD UPNG STUDENTS FIGHT AGAINST GOVERNMENT CORRUPTION?

By PNGBLOGS Staff Writers A person can have a PhD yet remain childishly immature and lacking in wisdom.   A high level university administrator can have education, wealth and status, but lack personal integrity.    All this is becoming selfevident through the continuing saga of former UPNG SRC president Bobby Yupi.   Last week, Yupi was lead actor in a self-created primitive action movie we might entitle “Return To The Stone Age”.   The event was witnessed by thousands as Bobby led a group of knife and gun wielding wantoks to attack peaceful, unarmed students attending a UPNG forum.  What Bobby Yupi did was beyond reprehensible.  It was criminal.  It was also the kind of event that outsiders love pointing to as evidence that PNG is a perpetually uncivilised nation.   Yupi’s actions did immense damage to UPNG’s reputations and that of the students. What on earth inspired UPNG students to elect as their SRC president an individual with such obvious character flaws and ca

This letter captures a prophecy that serves to inform you Mr. Prime Minister that you are the 7th and the perfect Prime Minister PNG has been long waiting for, for the last 36 years since self – governance. I came up with this prophecy after a holistic and thorough investigation into the bible and history and geography of Israel and PNG with afterwards extrapolation and correlation between these two nations of great interest. Now according to the God of the bible let us find out who is the perfect PM since PNG obtain its self – g

A personal account of the UPNG tensions

By LAKEN LEPATU AIGILO I was an observer at UPNG Forum before yesterday (08th July, 2014) and witnessed the Students Clash in its entirety. As such, I join other fellow PNG citizen who shared re this matter herein and hereunder is my testament. Awaiting declaration of the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) ‘VOTE OF REFERENDUM’ results by the Papua New Guinea Electrical Commission (PNGEC) and/or UPNG Administration at the UPNG Forum Square at about 12.00 Noon, students amicably and in an orderly fashion discussed issues pertaining to the current PARAKAGATE SAGA. The dismissed UPNG Students Representative Council (SRC) MR. BOBBY YUPI was seated at the Forum Car Park area with ‘FEW SELECTIVE’ Southern Highlands Province and Hela Province male students. I stood there next to them with handful of my friends. Mr. Yupi and his men were not heedful of the ongoing discussion at the Forum Square something which I conceived as unbecoming of the UPNG SRC President. They sit in an organized

Second letter signed by Peter O'Neill undermines his forgery claims, PNG MP says

SOURCE: ABC Papua New Guinea's former attorney-general says Peter O'Neill's attempt to explain a crucial letter in a corruption case undermines the prime minister's later claim that the letter was forged. Mr O'Neill has confirmed to the ABC that he signed a letter in 2013 that clarified the intent of an earlier directive to process legal bills, but insists he misunderstood what he was signing. Mr O'Neill says his chief of staff, Isaac Lupari, drafted the letter for him to sign but Mr Lupari has refused to confirm that he was the author. "If [Mr O'Neill] says that he didn't sign the first letter, then how is it that in the second letter he refers to the first letter by date?" former attorney-general Kerenga Kua said. Mr Kua was dismissed for questioning Mr O'Neill's leadership but remains an MP for Sinasina-Yonggamugl. A legal and political scandal has raged in PNG since police served Mr O'Neill with an arrest warrant
